MISSION STATEMENT ✝ Holy Family Catholic Church is a spiritually and socially active parish. Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we cele-brate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as we Continue Our Journey of Faith.

Dear Parishioners: We all have our hopes and dreams and although intellectually we understand that struggle and a great deal of effort must be part of attaining our dreams and goals, experiencing and enduring those struggles and efforts are another matter. The Apostles had great dreams; they knew that Jesus was about to begin something new. Peter even recognized that He was the Christ, the Messiah, but the Apostles idea of a Messiah centered around a leader who would

overthrow the Romans and make Israel a free and powerful nation. Jesus slowly but insistently reminded them that although He was the Messiah, He was a different kind of Messiah, one who came to win over the hearts of all to save all. He was not a political or military leader. The establishment of His Kingdom would entail effort and struggle. This message was hard for them to accept but, in light of the concept of Kingdom they had and the reality of the Kingdom He was establishing, their dreams did not include the struggle and effort it would take to fulfill them. Perhaps this is a lesson for us. First of all, do our dreams and hopes and what we value correspond to God’s will and the plan of His Kingdom? Are we willing to enter the struggle and embrace the efforts to attain the fulfillment of His will and the establishment of His Kingdom? Peace, Msgr. Paul STEWARDSHIP CORNER A Word of Gratitude...Good Stewardship To all who honor St. Anthony for their contribution of $1,990 which was collected on the statue. From the Desk of Sr. Eileen... Moms and Tots: Although the date has not yet been arranged, we will have one final meeting before the school year ends; I will notify the participants individually once the date is decided upon. Adult Education: Our next meeting is tomorrow, June 24. We may meet again in July. That will be decided at our next meeting and announced to the group.

This week I will notify the leader of any group which has a conflict in dates or places for the meeting rooms they requested in the September 2013-July 2014 calendar. I sincerely appreciate the cooperation I have received in the calendar planning.

If you or someone you know is interested in receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, please call me no later than August 15 so we can begin the preparation process.

Concerning Those In The Hospital... Due to the patient privacy act, hospitals are no longer permitted to notify us of our parishioners who are patients. If you or a member of your family is hospitalized and would like a priest to visit, please call the rectory and leave the name, the hospital, the room number, and a phone number where the caller may be reached. If You or Someone You Know Is Homebound... A Priest or Eucharistic Minister will be happy to bring Communion to the home. They visit many of our homebound parishioners during the month. If you are currently not on our list of visitations and would like to be, call us at 973-667-0026. Adding a Name to the Sick List… Often we are requested to pray for someone at Mass or to put their name in the bulletin for prayer - - and they are sitting in Church on Sunday! Please be sure to notify a priest or someone on the rectory staff to have a name removed. Generally, we will announce the name for 3 weeks and then their name is added to the sick list on the vestibule bulletin board. Thank you for your understanding.

Organ Donation Program Today in New Jersey, some 2,000 men, women and children are on waiting lists for life–saving organ or tissue transplants. Across the nation, many more thousands wait. Organ donors can save up to seven lives or

enhance the lives of 75 others through tissue donation. The Catholic Church holds that organ donation is morally and ethically acceptable. Pope John Paul II has said that organ donors accept “this as a challenge to their generosity and fraternal love.” If you are interested in learning more about organ donation, The Sharing Network, a new Jersey-based organization, can help. Call 1-800-SHARE-NJ to speak with a Sharing Network representative.

A REMINDER ABOUT APPROPRIATE SUMMER ATTIRE

AT MASS Dressing for Mass is simply a matter of showing proper respect, not only for God, but for others around you. Remember the days when we wore our “Sunday best,” our finest outfits, to Mass? Dress codes at Mass have certainly relaxed over the years. With the warm weather upon us, it is

particularly important that we dress appropriately and modestly for Mass, so here are some rules to follow for modest and proper Mass attire during the summer months: ❀ Hemlines on dresses and skirts fall at or just above the knee ❀ Hemlines on shorts fall near the knee (no short-shorts) ❀ Shoulders and midriffs are covered ❀ Necklines are modest - not low-cut ❀ No beachwear - swimsuits with cover-ups for females, swim trunks for males ❀ No muscle tee-shirts ❀ No exposed undergarments.

Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and

Savior. Amen."

NOMINATION FOR STEWARD OF THE MONTH

When deciding to nominate a person for the Steward of the Month Award, we should consider the following: The TIME that this person dedicates to parish activities, community events, personal time with

others in need of assistance, spiritual aid and/or companionship. The TALENT that this person offers to the parish and community, willingly and lovingly. The TREASURE this person offers to the parish and community. Has he or she accepted the divine call to extend God’s blessings on those less fortunate through personal sacrificial giving? These are important factors to consider when proposing a person for nomination. Often a prayer to the Holy Spirit is helpful, too, in discerning the name for nomination. Please fill out the nomination form and return it in an envelope marked “Stewardship Committee” to nominate a parishioner as Steward of the Month. ✄-------------------------------------------------------------------------

On national holidays, Novena prayers are offered at 8:45 AM, just prior to the 9:00 AM Mass.
