Baptism of the Lord 2

“Pastor’s Weekend Message”

“After the Lord was baptized, the heavens were opened, and the Spirit descended upon him like a dove,

and the voice of the Father thundered: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17

Today, John the Baptist proclaims, “Behold the Lamb of God,” as Jesus humbly comes to the Jordan to be baptized by John. It is through today’s Sunday liturgy, The Baptism of the Lord, that we learn also a couple of things from John and Jesus: First, we are invited to constantly proclaim the Gospel to all; everywhere and whenever. We are called to be true disciples in pointing out where the Lord is being manifested. For example: keeping notice where God’s presence is seen and where God makes His presence known. This might mean viewing it as “God’s plan, will, mystery, daily miracles and the like,” but over all to believe personally with confidence that we too can say, “Behold the Lamb of God” in the Person of Jesus especially in the Eucharist. Second, today’s liturgy is very sacramental, we dwell in the mystery, given that we recall our own baptismal call and promises to live as disciples of the Lord. As baptized Christians, we have a duty to do the following: (a) Repent and turn away from sins; (b) Believe in the Good News by accepting our call to constant conversion to follow the Lord Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit and (c) To be a true disciple of the Lord Jesus and carry His message of Salvation. In summary, let us have a personal encounter with the Living God who calls us to a life of holiness. Come to think about it, we at Holy Family now have more of an opportunity to focus on the Spiritual. May we also proclaim, “Behold the Lamb of God” and be for one another true baptized Disciples of Christ. This week let us follow the Lord Jesus more closely and be holy as He is Holy. Blessings in the Lord,

Fr. Juan, Pastor
