Clare is then taken to San Damiano where she finds the “Poor Clares” and where she spent the rest of her life; the place where Francis heard Jesus ask him to “Go and rebuild my church.” Clare answers Jesus’ call at the Portiuncula which intertwines the masculine feminine spirituality of all Franciscans. Clare lives at San Damiano, announcing the good news to her Sisters and all who come to her, comforts those who come seeking consolation, she heals and cares for the sick, through prayer she confronts enemies and at another time presents Jesus in a monstrance to protect the city of Assisi from war, she drives out demons, and she even multiplies bread where there is not enough for the Sisters to eat. Each of us has our “little portion,” that sacred place of prayer that we need to find, a place of prayer and deep love. Fr. Good People of Holy Cross,

Today, our Sunday celebration eclipses the feast day of Saint Clare of Assisi. Saint Francis loved a little Church dedicated to Mary, Mother of God; called Saint Mary of the Angels or the Portiuncula (little portion). When he first saw it, abandoned, Francis took up residence there in order to repair it and often saw angels while living there and loved this place more than any other in the world because of those angels. Saint Clare ran to the Portiuncula, leaving behind her home, city and relatives. The friars were praying and before the little altar of God, Clare’s hair was shorn by one of the Brothers and she put aside every kind of fine dress. It was in this “little portion” that a new army of the poor took its joyful beginning, the Franciscan Order. Fr. Jude Michael Gente Buena de Holy Cross,

FAITH FORMATION

IN & AROUND OUR PARISH

One of the requests from our neighbors that NETWorks struggles to

accommodate is rides to the doctor, typically for our older neighbors who don’t

drive. Now, there’s a new ministry attempting to provide that service in Tucker.

Lifespan Resources has been offering this service in parts of Atlanta and has

chosen to expand into the Tucker area. Their Medical Escort Transport

provided almost 350 rides last year. In order to expand it to our area, they are

looking for volunteer drivers. The time commitment is small (just a few hours a

month) and they will work with each volunteer’s schedule. Volunteers can call

404-237-7307

Jesus Needs You, We need you! Recruiting volunteers is a never-ending adventure in most ministries and I think that is exactly how it designed to work best. When we cease looking for new volunteers, it may indicate that we have settled for “what already is” and not “what it still can be.” Ministries are open to all age groups. Everyone is busy with work, families and other commitments, however, as disciples we all should be looking for ways to participate in church life. If Jesus was wise enough to choose a team of people who had different life experiences, to be on His team of disciples every ministry can use people from different life experiences. We need: Lectors – to read God’s word at every Mass Eucharistic Ministers – to assist the priest in distributing communion Ushers -take up collection, and be available in case of a ER. Welcome Folks – to greet people Musicians – Altar Server – Catechists - Rosary makers Please see bulletin or call HC office for contact information. Love, Jesus and the Franciscan Friars
