Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Holy Angels,

This is the last bulletin letter to be written during the

season of Summer now fleeting to a mere memory by Sep-tember 22 when the Autumn Equinox occurs. While, like

Spring 2020, Summer 2020 has been a Summer like no

other before it, there have been great graces and blessings

afforded. One of the greatest fonts of grace and blessings for

a few of us occurred a week ago Sunday, Sept. 13.

We enjoyed a Confirmation ceremony standing on its

own outside of Mass and a subsequent celebration for our

beautiful, young parishioner, Emma Shay, whose accompa-

nying photos are in the bulletin. Emma’s parents and won-

derful brothers and grandmother presented Emma for the

Holy Sacrament of Confirmation with her godparents and sponsor and a few family friends in Our Lady Queen of Holy

Angels Adoration Chapel. His Excellency, Bishop James D.

Conley of Lincoln, NE. presided and conferred the Holy

Sacrament on this adopted daughter of Almighty God. It

was simply a radiantly happy, beautiful day in which all persons participating, I believe, felt strongly the Presence

and Love of God. Emma is that rarest of God’s beloved

children who is so radiantly beautiful inside and out, whose

loveliest sound of laughter you ever heard would melt even

the most hardened of hearts. Emma looks much like photo-

graphs of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face at that same age with her golden hair.

Just before the ceremony began, Emma’s mother,

Brieanna, asked what relics were on the altar. I answered

that they were of St. Francis of Assisi and of St. Clare of

Assisi. I volunteered that relics within the altar were of St. Bruno, Founder of the Carthusians, and St. Lucy, Virgin

and Martyr. Brieanna and her own mother gasped and said,

“That’s what we were thinking of having Emma take,

besides Valentine, as her Confirmation name, Lucy, as she

is patron of the blind!” Emma continually is taking vision,

speech, occupational and physical therapy on a regular basis. Bishop Conley agreed to confirm her as Valentine

Lucy, as St. Valentine is the patron saint of both love—with

which Emma is filled—and patron saint of epileptics, from

which Emma suffers. Emma, born with brain abnormalities,

specifically a right front heterotopia and who has many cysts in the center of her brain, suffers from Aicardi

Syndrome, fights epilepsy on a daily basis, is wheelchair

dependent, and does not eat by her mouth, and bears low

muscle tone.

Her FaceBook page is https://www.facebook.com/

EmbracingEmma/

The wonderful friends of Emma’s family, one with their

lovely daughters, and others, joined the family and Bishop

and me in the rectory backyard after the Sacrament was

conferred where usually there are all kinds of flowers

blooming. I was miffed, thinking, wow! no flowers on this

day for Emma! What’s with this God?—until the Holy Spirit

informed me no mere flower in a regular garden could

CONGRATULATIONS TO EMMA MARIE SHAY, daughter of Nathan & Brieanna Shay, who was confirmed on Sept. 13 by Bishop James Conley. Thank you also to all those who partici-pated in the silent auction to raise funds for the family. Over $10,000 has been raised to help the family purchase a van.

Sept 20, 2020 • 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time | 3

As those of you who attended Masses last weekend learned,

the Holy Angels Music Guild is a group of private individuals

whose current goal is to acquire the world-class Gober Opus 5 pipe organ for Holy Angels through the use of private dona-

tions. You can hear the full presentation on the recorded Sept

13 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass on the Holy Angels Catholic

Church Basehor KS YouTube channel.

We were excited at the marvelous response and interest from

parishioners to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Guild members will be in the narthex again after all three Masses

this weekend to answer questions and hand out flyers. The

photo poster of the organ and informational flyers will remain

in the narthex. They provide information on the organ, show how it will look in our church, provide information

on how to contribute to this project, and explain how the organ will be an amazingly enhancing addition to Holy

Angels as has been our Adoration Chapel.

For more information about the organ go to YouTube and search for Holy Angels Music Guild. Then click on the video interview of Dr. Kevin Vogt about this phenomenal instrument. Please feel free to contact Donna

Thomas at 913-558-4133 (text or call) or [email protected]. While we need monetary donations, we appre-

ciate everyone’s prayers as well! The monetary goal is approx. $150,000.

compete in God’s garden of souls with this new

“Little Flower” who is Emma Marie Valentine Lucy Knight Shay. Like, St. Therese of the Child

Jesus and of the Holy Face, we can see in Emma

the Child Jesus, and in whose face one can see

the beauty of the Holy Face of Jesus. Emma

steals everyone’s heart—she who was that late

summer day in the rectory garden, the most beautiful Last Rose of Summer. Both Bishop

Conley, all those present, and I know that special

day with this most special of parishioners will

live in our hearts and memories for years to

come.

Blessings, grace, mercy, peace and joy,

YOUR ROLE AS A CATHOLIC VOTER This November Catholics across the nation will

have the responsibility to make their voices

heard. Many issues are at stake, some more

important than others. No issue can be ignored

but no issue is more crucial to the foundation of

our country then life, faith and family. The family

must be strengthened not redefined. Human life

is paramount and must be protected from con-

ception to natural death. Religious freedom must

be regarded as one of our basic freedoms. Now

more than any other time in history, you must

stand for truth. VOTE YOUR CONSCIENCE!

VOTE PRO LIFE!
