PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
It is my pleasure to inform you that Mr Mark Hoppitt has been appointed as Principal of Holsworthy
Public School and I trust you’ll join me in welcoming him to the school.
Mr Hoppitt is a highly experienced school leader and senior officer with the Department of
Education, having served as Principal in three previous primary schools. He has recently
completed a secondment as Director for the Student Administration and Learning Management
(SALM) system. I am sure that the school community will make Mr Hoppitt feel welcomed once he
joins our school next week.
I would also like to thank the school community for supporting me during my time as Relieving
Principal. I truly am honoured to have led such a wonderful school with dedicated teachers, office
and support staff who are always working to provide engaging and authentic programs to improve
student learning to develop the whole child. Our school is only made greater because of all the
wonderful students who walk through our gates each day. Their smiling faces, laughs and eagerness
to be at this school make it a pleasure to be part of it.
I would also like to thank my senior executives Ms Taylor and Mrs Lindsay for their continued
dedication, hard-work and professionalism. Thank you also to the whole executive team who put in
many hours behind the scenes to make sure programs are implemented and their teams run
smoothly to drive student improvement.
STAFF NEWS
We welcome Miss Rebecca Eyles, as our new Assistant Principal, Stage 3 and class teacher of
4/5P. Miss Eyles has a wealth of knowledge that she brings to the school. She has already started
at the school this week and will be working closely with Mrs Pond who will leave us at the end of
this week to go on Maternity Leave.
I would also like to welcome Mrs Megan Walters who is also joining our staff this term and will be
class teacher of 6S for the remainder of the year when Mrs Sansom goes on Maternity Leave.
Both Miss Eyles and Mrs Walters will be working closely with the current class teachers to ensure
a smooth transition and continuity of the class program.
EDUCATION WEEK
Every year, we come together in Education Week to celebrate the outstanding things that are
happening in our NSW public schools. Due to the current pandemic, this year’s events looked a
little different. Holsworthy PS celebrated Education Week on Wednesday last week and it was a
day of amazing teaching and learning opportunities. The students enjoyed our beautiful outdoor
learning spaces and engaged in a variety of hands-on activities to celebrate the great things that
happen every day at our school. Activities were uploaded onto our School Facebook page. We
truly embraced the theme of ‘Learning Together’.

EDUCATION WEEK YEAR ONE
Year One students and teachers love learning together. We celebrated Education Week with a
range of Mathematics based tasks and challenges in collaborative learning groups. This allowed
students to demonstrate their mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills whilst having fun
learning together with their peers.
STAGE 3 EDUCATION WEEK
Last week, Stage 3 students engaged in group activities that focused on their understanding of
patterns and algebra. Classes had a busy morning plotting points on a giant Cartesian Plane with
students acting as the markers. Students worked in teams to locate and identify coordinates or
plot linear equations. Students also created geometric patterns in groups and had to find the rule
for their pattern after creating a table of values.
KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATES EDUCATION WEEK
Kinder had a fantastic first education week. We celebrated the theme ‘Working Together’ within our
school focus of numeracy. We warmed up our brains by counting forward and back and completing
a mathematical problem using Newman’s prompts. All classes worked on our number skills by
playing some games that encouraged us to work in pairs or as a group. After that our teachers gave
us construction materials to make shapes, play games and solve problems using our mathematical
knowledge. We had so much fun and learning and ‘working together’.
STUDENT BANKING
Student banking is once again starting on Thursday (20/8/2020). Please remember to send your
child with the savings book every Thursday.
SCRIPTURE
Due to school building maintenance which is happening across the school we have had to pause
Scripture at this stage. This is due to limited available spaces and keeping in mind social distancing
guidelines. Further updates to Scripture starting again will be communicated once the maintenance
has been completed.
SPARE CLOTHING
At times children have accidents and spare clothing is given from the office. Please make sure that
you return the clothing all washed as soon as possible.
K-6 CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL
Our modified Cross Country carnivals took place last week. K-2 students ran in grade races on Thursday and students in Years 3-6 competed in age races on Friday. All students participated with enthusiasm and are to be congratulated on their efforts. Unfortunately, the 11 year girls race and the 8 and 9 year boys and girls races had to be postponed due to the weather. These races will be rescheduled. Congratulations to the students who finished in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each race. Ms Mercer, Ms Murdoch, Mr Sammut, Mr Polimeni Cross Country Carnival coordinators
SCIENCE DAY WEDNESDAY 12 AUGUST 2020 On Wednesday 12 August 2020 we celebrated science day at Holsworthy Public School. Students
came to school dressed as their favourite wacky scientists. There were plenty of great outfits and
wacky hairdos! Students had an amazing day filled with awesome science videos, experiments
and activities.
