THE PLANT ROOM TIP
It is the season to feel that mysterious delight as the world renews itself. Participate by planting seeds or tak-ing care of a potted plant. Its your deci-sion; you are in
charge! Or are you? Best-selling author Michael Pollan writes a fascinating history of 4 “domesticated” plants in his book Botany of Desire, in which he turns that thought on its head and looks at us from a plant’s point of view - “a clever evolutionary strategy for advancing their own interests.” Who would think that a book about apples, tulips, marijuana and potatoes could keep you turning pages far into the night? The introduction is called “the human bumble-bee”….

January, 2016
For the past two and a half years it has been my pleasure to teach and direct in concert, the Holiday Park Sing-ers (The Sing Your Best Class.) We now are forty-eight singers strong! We have given three performances at Holiday Park and are planning our Spring Concert which we hope you will all attend.
Our singers come from many traditions with different musical backgrounds. For some, it is their first experi-ence of singing in a group. Others have experience in church music. Some are dedicated to folk music and popular song. The binding aspect of our varied experience is that we all love to sing.
We are very fortunate to have our truly dedicated pianist, Richard Gilbert, who has volunteered his time since the Sing Your Best Class has begun. He has helped us to grow into a cohesive ensemble with his exceptional musicianship and artistry.
A group like ours needs a lot of hands-on help. I have been blessed with Sheryl Walker, my executive assis-tant. She is in contact with all our members via email and telephone. She handles the attendance and pay-ment. She assists in putting the music together, a very large job that she shares with our dedicated librarian, Ida Leong. And she plans, with our singers, the delicious post-performance reception for our audience.
We look forward to our Spring Concert which we call “Songs of Love to Welcome Spring”. We hope to see you all there.
