Inter Disciplinary Project

IX - X (2017-18)

TOPIC- WATER CONSEWRVATION- TEMPLES OF MODERN INDIA - MULTI PURPOSE RIVER VALLRY

PROJECTS - THEIR ROLE IN WATER MANAGEMENT.

Clean fresh water is essential for healthy life. However , today , nearly one billion people don't have

access to clean water . Water Scarcity is the lack of sufficient available water resources to meet water

needs within a region . It affects every continent. Depleting reservations and failing groundwater table

has led to an acute water shortage in several states of India as well.

Multipurpose river valley projects in India were started with the basic aim of meeting the critical

requirements of irrigation for agriculture , electricity for industries and flood control . The importance

of the dams at that time can be inferred from the fact that dams were regarded as " The Temples of

Modern India" by our first Prime Minister , Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru . Accordingly, dam construction

was given such a high priority in India's economic plans. Till now "Irrigation and hydro - power have

been the major objectives of the water resources development in India. " These " Temples of Modern

India" or rather Multipurpose Projects ( or River Valley Projects ) have not only solved much of the

water scarcity problem but also boosted the Indian economy.

General Instructions:-

A single inter - disciplinary project is to be made in one file containing all subjects.

The first page of the projects should have the following details: o Name of the student o Class and section o Session

The second page must have the following :

Subject Remarks by Teacher Teacher's Signature

The projects should be hand written on plan white / coloured A4 size sheets

All subject specific tasks or homework to be placed in a single file ( spirally bound or otherwise).

Cover page, table of contents, acknowledgements , bibliography should be included.

It should be well presented , researched and pictorial .

Each subject should not exceed 8 sheets .

The project carries 20 marks for each subject:

Relevance of the content - 5 marks

Expression of the ideas - 4 marks.

Presentation- 4 marks

Research - 4 marks

Creativity- 3 marks

Write a diary entry sharing your views and experiences of your visit. You may also include

information about the multipurpose project. ( 100-120 words)
