test tube. The evolved gas was then passed through lime water. What change would be

observed in lime water? What will happen if exchange of gas is passed through lime

water? With the help of balanced chemical equations for all the changes explain the

observations.

9. A metal nitrate „A‟ on heating gives yellowish brown coloured metal oxide along with

brown gas „B‟ and a colourless gas „C‟. Aqueous solution of „A‟ on reaction with

potassium iodide forms a yellow precipitate of compound D. Identify A,B, C, D. Also

identify the types of both the reaction. Metal present in alloy which is used for soldering

purposes.

10. A reddish brown coloured metal, used in electrical wires, when powdered and

heated strongly in an open china dish, its colour turns black. When hydrogen gas is

passed over this black substance, it regains its original colour. Based on the above

information answer the following questions

a) Name the metal and the black coloured substance formed.

Page 15: HOLIDAY HOMEWORK CLASS X - Gd Salwan Public School X.pdf · ENGLISH Make a Comic Strip of the poem „The Frog and the Nightingale‟ by Vikram Seth, with at least 20 dialogues. Attempt

b) Write the balanced chemical equation for both the reactions.

11. Identify the type of chemical reaction taking place

a) On mixing a solution of potassium chloride with silver nitrate, an insoluble white

substance is formed.

b) On heating green colored ferrous sulphate crystals, reddish brown solid is left and

smell of a gas having odour of burning sulphur is observed.

12. Zinc liberates hydrogen gas when reacted with hydrochloric acid whereas copper

does not. Explain why?
