The Landscape Committee continues to work hard monitoring the care and maintenance of our many miles of common areas and the general landscape conditions throughout our community. The Committee meets formally with D.T.E. Management, our Management team and our Board Liaison the first Thursday of every month at 10 AM to discuss Heritage Hills landscape issues.

• “Gator Ride Alongs”: They continue every other Monday with Alan Bedell (D.T.E Account Manager), David Estilette (Leland C.A.M.) and Bill Pignatora (Landscape Committee Chair). A “Punch List” of deficiencies is created which D.T.E is to correct within 5 business days and report back with results and corrections at another meeting held on the following Monday.

• Irrigation: All wells on the property are running normally. D.T.E. has assembled a new irrigation crew of knowledgeable and proficient technicians. They have made all repairs to systems damaged by outside contractors over the past several months, addressed the Belland community issues caused by and not rectified by Lennar, and made extensive repairs and modifications to Heritage Hills Blvd. and Clubhouse parts of the system. They have even started monthly home inspections beginning December 1. Lastly was the conversion from two day to one day watering [per City of Clermont regulations]. All residents have been converted. Odd addresses are watering on Saturdays and even on Sundays. If there are any irrigation issues please send in a work order to D.T.E.

• Year end Landscape Projects: The Landscape Committee has proposed and the Board has approved three projects. (1) Removal and some replacement of

Happy New Year from the Heritage Hills Board of Directors! We hope that your holiday season was enjoyable and that things look bright for 2020.

As indicated in last month’s message, the Board approved a policy regarding scheduling events and use of the ballroom. This should simplify planning and expand the use of the ballroom for 2020.

Other results from the December meeting of the BOD include approval of the insurance contract and approval of the 2020 budget for the community.

Management is coordinating for cleaning the ballroom carpets and the various cleaning companies are submitting bids for consideration.

A new method of attaching the wind screens on the tennis courts will be used that should result in them lasting longer and looking better.

The BOD president, Felix DeMuro, reports that the

Landscape Committeedead or dying shrubs, and areas Zoysia and Bahia turf in irrigated areas behind the Clubhouse, Pool, and Gazebo. (2) Replacement of dead or dying Zoysia and Bahia turf along irrigated areas of Heritage Hills Blvd. from the Hancock to Hartwood Marsh gates. (3) Enhancements to the entrance and the roundabout at Belland Circle. All three projects started on December 10 and be completed by Dec 31.

• Mulch Delivery: Mulch will be delivered during the first week of February. Mulch notifications and instructions were sent out by e-mail community reminders twice per week for six weeks. The deadline was December 31 for residents to make any special requests and or payments as noted. If you still have questions please send in a work order or call the office as soon as possible.

As we enter our new year the Landscape Committee will continue to look into areas on the property where landscaping can be improved, map them out, prioritize them, suggest solutions secure estimates, and present them to the Board for their review. The Committee is doing it’s best to help make Heritage Hills the most beautiful community in the area.

If you have landscape questions or concerns please send in a work order to [email protected] or call (352) 385-7227 Ext. 224. Please do not stop and speak to the D.T.E. Account Manager or the crew members on site to discuss your issues. This will not solve your problem and leaves no paper trail to track later. Leland Management and the Landscape Committee are kept up to date with D.T.E.’s receipt and execution of the work orders submitted each week. Thank you for your input, cooperation, and understanding.

HOABoard of Directors

septic tank at the top of Heritage Hills Blvd. has been removed from the area where the Lennar trailer was located. He also reports that the same amount of mulch would be given to all residents of villas and that the amount should be sufficient to cover all areas requiring treatment. Finally, he shares the sad news that Donna Trimue is not doing very well after her illness. Donna had served as our Community Manager for several years and suffered a stroke last year. Many of you have offered support for her as she recovers and that help has been greatly appreciated. As of this time, her family is assuming responsibility for her care.

As mentioned at the December meeting, your HOA Board is willing to work diligently to help all residents of the community. However, we ask that you bring questions and issues to the management company first so that they can have the chance to help you quickly and efficiently.

December off and will return January 27 at 6 PM. This event is a fundraiser for our Detachment so that we can assist veteran Marines and their families throughout our community. So grab your friends and join us for the fun of playing Bingo! It costs $20 for a package which includes 12 games, plus speed ball jackpot and a chance ticket for $5 off next month’s Bingo. We also sell pizza, hot dogs, soft drinks and snacks reasonably priced. Who knows, you may even win some Bingo bucks!! Look forward to seeing you then! OOH-Rah

It’s January and 2020! Dress a Girl has begun another year of dress and doll making. We are in the process of discussing plans for our new year. We hope to continue sponsoring Trivia Night, play intermission snacks, and our tea and fashion show. Plans are not confirmed, but watch your newsletter for dates and times.

As with any project, we are always keeping an eye on improvement. So, this year we have suggested adding an additional pocket to our dresses. That means extra room for those few little treasures that we girls like to have in our clothing.

Often we are approached about fabric donations. Fabric is always welcome and much needed. We have collected fabric from garage sales, from quilters, even from gently used drapes and table cloths that have come our way. Sharing a dress one of us has designed from a table cloth never ceases to amaze us. If you have 100% cotton fabric that needs a purpose, we have a purpose for it.

DAG sends its happy, healthy, and prosperous wishes for the new year to our HH community. As always, many thanks to this generous community for helping us keep our sewing machines humming! We sew for smiles!

A Special Enrollment Period (SEP) allows you to join, change or drop a Medicare Advantage plan or prescription drug plan outside of the Annual Enrollment Period in certain situations, such as when you move. These situations are called “qualifying events.” In most cases, you have 2 full months after the month of a qualifying event to make plan changes.

Depending on certain circumstances, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Some ways you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period are if you:

• Retire and lose your employer coverage •Move out of the plan’s service area • Receive assistance from the state

• Have been diagnosed with certain qualifying disabilities or chronic health conditions • Qualify for Extra Help

In most cases, you have 2 full months after your qualifying event to make Medicare plan changes.

Contact me for help determining if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

Plans are insured through UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company or one of its affiliated companies, a Medicare Advantage organization with a Medicare contract. Enrollment in the plan depends on the plan’s contract renewal with Medicare.

Heritage Hills Library

16 • Heritage Hills • January 2020

Hope that everyone enjoyed very Happy Holidays here in Heritage Hills. It’s a new year 2020 and we are fortunate in that we have a newly updated library for the enjoyment and benefit of our community. As one of the few rooms that still has carpet, it would be appreciated if people refrained from eating and drinking in order to keep our library in the wonderful condition that it currently is in.

For 2020, we will rely on our friends and neighbors for donations supporting our growing book collection. Please do not bring books with a copyright prior to 2010. Although we would want to place them on our shelves, there just isn’t room.

The same volunteers have attended to the library for several years. We appreciate your letting us know your opinions on the library when you see us busily working to keep the library in order. We welcome your books. We also welcome current magazines.

Our library volunteers are pictured in this photo that was taken last year: Helen Wunderlich, Debbie Running and Gail Steinberg.

For donations of items we are unable to take, Cooper Memorial Library would be happy to receive your books. The books are a huge source of fundraising for the Cooper Memorial Library. Their book sale takes place in February and there is an upcoming sale on July 26. We encourage you to bring older books to Cooper Memorial Library located at 2525 Oakley Seaver Drive, Clermont, Florida 34711, phone 352-536-2275. Note the library hours of operation: Monday to Thursday, the library is open from 8 AM to 8 PM. On Friday and Saturday, the library is open from 9 AM to 5 PM and the library is closed on Sunday. The Cooper Memorial Library would appreciate any donations EXCEPT for magazines, videotapes, out of date technical books such as tax books, etc. Other books in good condition are welcomed. All proceeds from their book sale go back to the library community.

Please do not shelf or re-shelf the books. There is an order to the library. As we mainly stock fiction books, they are arranged alphabetically by author. Biographies and help, craft and other assorted books can be found on the top shelves at this time.

Return your books in the baskets provided. You may also leave your donated books and other materials in the baskets. Anyone with suggestions or comments, feel free to contact me. Our community is for everyone’s benefit so it is important to let your thoughts and preferences be known. Suggestions and comments are welcome....always.

Now, please find a book and let us read. Thank you,Gail Steinberg

Christmas Party in the ballroom on December 9. From all reports, this was the best party we’ve had so far. The party was attended by almost 125 people; everyone brought a

dish and there was plenty of food to go around; the music and entertainment was awesome, and everyone had a wonderful time. Some pictures are attached to attest to the great time everyone had.

Happy New Year! 2019 was a great year for Clermont. We have accomplished a great deal of work to make our city a better place to work, play and live. Many improvements were made last year and Clermont’s future is bright. I am looking forward to a great 2020.

The Citizens Academy is a great way to learn about our local government and get involved in our community. Contact the city if you’re interested in participating in the next academy.

The Clermont’s Youth Council was presented an award from the Florida League of Cities. The high school students won the 2019 Youth Council Video Competition. The video that they created is to help educate the public on local government and how it impacts them. Congratulations to the Clermont Youth Council.

As a reminder, the first Friday of every month, Clermont has Food Trucks and Music downtown on Montrose.

Clermont is currently reviewing plans for the Artwalk Project which will be located downtown.

Starbucks is building in front of the Kings Ridge Publix, where the bank once was and Dunkin Donuts is slated to go in on the corner of Hwy. 27 and Hammock Ridge.

City Hall Newsby Timothy BatesClermont City Council MemberSeat 1

January / February 2020Please don’t Text and Drive. During the winter months, the Champion Splash Pad will be closed.

During this time, the city will be providing maintenance on the pad. It will be completed in time for the spring opening.

The residents of Clermont have voted and approved term limits for city council members. The Clermont City Council discussed imposing term limits on the members and had it added to the general ballot in November. The residents spoke and the council now has a 4 two year term limit. A council member cannot serve more than 8 years starting this year.

A new Clermont History book has been released, “Clermont: From Gem of the Hills to Choice of Champions” has been released. The book was originally written by Miriam W. Johnson and Rosemary Y. Young and was just updated by Toni Bell-Rescoe, Doris Bloodsworth, Michelle Delaney, Lisa Graham and Caryl Harris.

The new Clermont Boat Ramp has been completed. The Kehlor building is now open. The City Council had the ribbon

cutting for the new senior center in November. The Kehlor building is located downtown and is used for senior activities and clubs like: the chess club, philosophy club, cards, dominos, general meetings, tennis, shuffle board, checkers, etc. It’s a great place for seniors to engage with others in the community.

Have a great 2020. Please let me know what I can do for you.

God Bless,

Timothy BatesCity of Clermont Council Member

TheHeritage Hills

PlayersThe Heritage Hills Players are delighted to announce our Board

of Directors for 2020. They are: President: Kathy Bardsley; President Elect: Carole Rhodes; Secretary: Pat Fogarty; Treasurer: Fred Gesiorski; Vice President: Candy Draksler; Past President: Eve Doll; Creative Director: Vince Santo.

We are excited to bring our community even more, high quality theatrical entertainment beginning with our ever-popular Murder Mystery Dinner in March. Please keep watching email blasts and Heritage Hills Facebook postings for dates and ticket sales.

Our goals for 2020 are to continue our synergies with the CEC, grow our membership and develop the unique talents and interests of our membership in providing great stage experiences at Heritage Hills.

The Heritage Hills Players is an organization of HH friends and neighbors dedicated to bringing quality theatrical entertainment to our Heritage Hills Community. We have a blast doing it and hope you enjoy the results of many hours of scripting, rehearsing, planning, producing and staging (and serving and feeding!!) that go into making great community theater. We always welcome new members; there is plenty to do on stage and behind the scenes! (Check out our Facebook page: Heritage Hills Players or email us at: [email protected].)

Special thanks to our 2019 President Eve Doll for navigating us through the waters of change as we began our alignment with the HOA and CEC. Thank you HOABOD, Leland Management and CEC for helping to make this transition possible. Thanks to Larry Oskin photographer extraordinaire, and finally, we send out a big round of applause and gratitude to all our members who did so much- on stage and behind the scenes- to bring some great theatrical entertainment to our community. Most of all, The Heritage Hills Players thank you, our Heritage Hills Community, for a record 2019 and look forward to wowing you in 2020!

In the words of the Bard, “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players”—Play On!

Please join our group in the library on Tuesdays from 1 to 4 PM.

We welcome new members.2020 is here and what a wonderful year to look at all that is

ahead of us. We live in a beautiful community and enjoy the camaraderie of our neighbors and friends. This group has been ongoing for, I believe, seven years and we continue to welcome other residents to our group.

This is a social group that enjoys working on their own projects as well as projects for donations to various charities. The group is self-guided with various skills of crochet, knitting and needlework. If you run into problems on a project, there are individuals here with years of experience and expertise who can help you out. There is no one in charge, so come, stay awhile and leave when you wish. We keep a roster of the people who are in the group regularly and wish to be included in the list. We just had our holiday party on December 10 at Cheesers Palace on Montrose Street in downtown Clermont. Perhaps we will make this a tradition as it was enjoyed by all.

For those interested in donating their projects, there are some “members” working on projects. If anyone has contact information on local charities who want or need handmade items, please let me know so I can get the information out to our group. If you would like to talk to someone about our group, please contact me.

Thank you, Gail Steinberg352-708-4747 [email protected]

HomeopathicStudy Group

Why not start the New Year off right by taking charge of your health? No one knows your body better than you do.

You may have heard of Homeopathy but feel don’t know much about it. Come learn with others who are interested in an approach to lasting health and healing that works with the body. No side effects! This is a great time to join the study group and new members are always welcome.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that treats the person rather than the disease. It takes a different approach than conventional medicine does in that it does not divide the effects of a medicine into so called effects and side-effects. Instead, the sum total of all the effects are recognized as what a particular medicine can cause.

For a good response, the medicine must be prescribed for the patient, not the disease. This is done by matching the patient’s symptoms with the symptoms that a medicine can cause. A homeopathic medicine is properly chosen based on the similar symptoms of the whole person and given in such a tiny non-toxic dose that it will not force its effect on the body. Therefore, there are no side-effects as there are with conventional drug therapy.

Our main text, Homeopathic Remedies by Asa Hershoff, is available from Amazon.com for $12.77. It is helpful to have your own copy so you can read in preparation for our monthly study group meetings, as well as allow you take notes and/or highlight as you wish. The book is a well-organized introduction to Homeopathy AND it is a helpful reference for good health and self-care at home. The Healing Echo is available from Amazon.com for $17.71.

For more information contactDor Remsen at [email protected]

Be sure that Dor has your email address, so that you can receive reminders, as well as the pages and topics that will be covered at each meeting.

Law of Similars

Homeopathy is a system of medicine developed by a German physician, Samuel Hahnemann, over 200 years ago. Since that time, it has spread to every country of the world. It is based on the Law of Similars, that is, like cures like. This means that a substance given in a large crude dosage will produce specific symptoms, but when administered in an extremely minute dose will stimulate the body’s reactive processes to remove these same symptoms. For example, Ipecacuanha (Ipecac), if taken in a large dose will produce vomiting. When taken in an extremely small homeopathic dose (prepared by a series of dilutions and successions), it will aid the body in eliminating the vomiting. It will even stop the gagging which frequently follows a coughing spell. There are more that 2000 homeopathic medicines, most available over-the-counter. Many acute ailments can be treated at home, while chronic illness may require the help of a homeopathic practitioner. Come learn with us about safe, gentle and effective Homeopathy. We welcome you to join us, jumping right into study with us at any time. Our main text, Homeopathic Remedies by Asa Hershoff, is available from Amazon.com for $12.77. Many wonderful events are planned and ongoing at Heritage Hills. As of this writing, Leland was unable to schedule club meetings but we will be able to schedule shortly. Look for an email or a post on Facebook soon. The New Year is finally here and we do have two events planned for 2020.

April 25, 2020, MAMMA MIA is scheduled for a Saturday matinee at the Annie Russell Theater in Winter Park. Tickets are $12 and to reserve tickets, contact Bunnie Friedman at 407-614-3122.

July 10, 2020, at 7:30 PM at the Garden Theater in Winter Garden is the opening night of GREASE. I’m told that the opening night is not to be missed. The price is $22.95 based on 36 seats. If you are interested, please contact me. I will be taking checks for this event soon. Look for an email as I want to get tickets out to everyone.

The main focus for this group will be show/dinner/boat ride outside of Heritage Hills. Please send me information that I can follow up on for future activities. Thank you.

SHALOM (PEACE),hello, goodbye, and so much more.

MENORAH LIGHTING and Holiday party was held on December 23rd. We enjoyed the company of our group members and, of course, appetizers, dessert and pizza.

Our group comes together and I feel a real sense of family and community when we have these events. I hope you all do as well. Unfortunately, this article is being written way before our holiday party so there are no pictures. We had a sign up of over 40 people for the event and hope that we will enjoy future events in our clubhouse ballroom.

If you wish to be on our email list, please contact me.

Vineyard Updatefrom the

Gardens & Groves Group

The Annual Harvest which took place at the end of August went very well. Many Heritage Hills residents took part and picked a variety of grapes for their own personal use for making jams, juice, jellies or just to enjoy as they are.

The next vineyard activity will take place in January where all interested HH residents, along with the Gardens & Groves Group member volunteers, will perform the annual pruning of the vines.

An e-blast will go out to the community prior to this event announcing the specific date and time. Until then, continue to enjoy the beauty of your vineyard. It is unique! No other community in Clermont or the surrounding areas has one!

Vineyard Update from the Gardens & Groves Group

The Annual Harvest is just around the corner! The Heritage Hills Gardens & Groves Group will be out in the vineyard late August/early September. We will provide a Harvest date to the office to be included in the e-mailed Weekly Update. All residents are welcome to join us. There are several delicious varieties of grapes in our vineyard, not just wine making grapes, so come join us, but please not before we advise that they’re ready to be harvested. We have gathered several recipes which utilize muscadine grapes and would love to share them with you! Remember, it’s Your Vineyard, so take part and enjoy the fruits that we have been so lucky to have living here in Heritage Hills!

January 2 • 1-2:30 PMLibrary, Clubhouse

Sanditonby Jane Austen and “Another Lady”

We begin our Book Club year with Sanditon, the unfinished novel by Jane Austen, completed by “another lady.” Writing from the end of January to mid-March, Austen finished only 11 chapters before her death on July 18, 1817. In addition to appreciating the story and characters of what eventually became a 30-chapter novel, we’ll get to weigh in on how we think the nameless novelist matched Austen’s craft.

From the book jacket: When Charlotte Heywood accepts an invitation to visit the newly fashionable seaside resort of Sanditon, she is introduced to a full range of polite society, from the reigning local dowager, Lady Denham, to her impoverished ward, Clara; and from the handsome, feckless Sidney Parker, to his amusing, if hypochondriacal, sisters. A heroine whose clearsighted common sense is often at war with romance, Charlotte cannot help observing both folly and passion in many guises. But can the levelheaded Charlotte herself resist attractions of the heart?

The story will be a PBS series beginning January 12, so we will have an opportunity to think about the job the various screen writers did to stay true to Austen, too…or not. Do we have any diehard Austenites in our group? We’d love to hear from you!

Thank you to all Book Club members who participated in nominating and voting for books for our 2020 HHills Book Club list. Look for the complete 2020 HHills Book Club List on the Clubs & Groups pages in each monthly issue of the Olive & Grape.

We invite you to join us each first Thursday for a fun and lively discussion—no matter what the book or genre.
