#ntra7fre:uency handover is classified into'

• #ntra7fre:uency soft handover' =ultiple radio links are connected to the & at the same time

during handover.

• #ntra7fre:uency hard handover' nly one radio link is connected to the & during handover.

(1(1 Intra-Fre8uenc* 'o5t Handover 

#ntra7fre:uency soft handover is more commonly used than intra7fre:uency hard handover. The types ofintra7fre:uency soft handover are as follows'

• "ofter handovers' This type of handover occurs within a Node(, and the Node( performs

ma$imum ratio combination for the uplink signals.

"ofter handovers can be performed only between cells in the same uplink resource group. Thedownlink resource group configurations of different base station types affect softer handovers as

follows'

5or a 6("988 series base station earlier than 1AN+9.8, softer handovers cannot be

performed between cells configured on different baseband boards. 5or a 6("988 series basestation of 1AN+9.8 or later, softer handovers can be performed between cells configured ondifferent boards as long as the boards are not H(( boards, for e$ample, between cellsconfigured on different &((C boards, cells configured on an &((C board and an &((6 board,or cells configured on an &((C6 and an &((C board. #f a & is in a cell configured on anH(( board, the target cell of the softer handover must be configured on the same H((board.

5or a 6("988 series base station earlier than 1AN+9.8, softer handovers cannot be

performed between cells that are configured in different downlink resource groups. 5or a6("988 series base station of 1AN+9.8 and later, softer handovers can be performed

between cells that are configured in different downlink resource groups.

The downlink resource group configurations of the (T"9+-&3(T"9+-A& have no

impact on softer handovers.

• #ntra71NC inter7Node( soft handover' This type of handover is implemented by the 21567

8-8-8- #ntra 1NC "oft Handover feature. 6uring this type of handover, the 1NC performs selectivecombination for uplink signals.

• #nter71NC soft handover' This type of handover is implemented by the 215678-8-89 #nter 1NC

"oft Handover feature. 6uring this type of handover, the 1NC performs selective combination foruplink signals.

#ntra7fre:uency soft handover is characteri)ed by the function that the & can be connected to multiple

niversal Terrestrial 1adio Access Network >T1AN? access points at the same time. Addition andrelease of radio links are controlled by the ACT#D& "&T /6AT& procedure.

The HoSwitch( BSC6900 ,BSC6910  )' H$9IN#RA9FR":9'$F#9H$9'WI#CH parameter is used todetermine whether to enable both soft handover and softer handover. (y default, this switch is set to N,indicating that both soft handover and softer handover are enabled. After the 1NC receives the event +A,+(, +C, or +6 report, it initiates the corresponding soft handover procedure for the &. 5or e$ample, the1NC can add or delete links.

The DivCtrlField( BSC6900 ,BSC6910  ) parameter indicates whether ma$imum7ratio combination isenabled in the uplink during softer handover. 2hen the Node( decides not to perform ma$imum7ratiocombination >softer combination?, the 1NC performs selective combination.

#f a soft or softer handover over the #ur interface is triggered and the intra7fre:uency cells are configuredin different uplink resource groups, CMP9I!R9'H$9DI;C#R%9'WI#CH  oftheCmpSwitch( BSC6900 ,BSC6910  ) parameter  must be set to $N. nder this circumstance, the Node(determines whether to combine the 1Ls on the Node( based on the valueof DivCtrlField( BSC6900 ,BSC6910  ).

#ntra7fre:uency hard handover >215678-898+ #ntra 5re:uency Hard Handover? refers to a handoverwhere all the old radio links are released before the new radio links are established. Compared with softhandover, intra7fre:uency hard handover uses fewer resources.

The scenarios of intra7fre:uency hard handover are as follows'

• No #ur interface is present between 1NCs. #n this scenario, intra7fre:uency hard handover instead

of soft handover can be performed between two 1NCs.

• The intra7fre:uency soft handover fails and the intra7fre:uency hard handover is allowed.

2hen the intra7fre:uency soft handover fails because of a congestion problem of the target cell, the1NC tries an intra7fre:uency hard handover.
