• In 1962, the Rand Corporation was working on a project for the US military. They asked the question: How would the US military communications systems withstand a nuclear attack?

Terminology
• TCP/IP Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol
A common language that computers on the Internet use to communicate. Any computer that understands TCP/IP can connect to the Internet.
Birth of the World Wide Web
• 1992 Tim Berners-Lee, a physicist in Geneva Switzerland came up with the term World Wide Web - WWW - W3
• June 1993 Marc Andreesen & others at NCSA - University of Illinois developed Mosaic - 1st Web Browser
Terminology
• HTTP HyperText Transport Protocol
Hypertext Transport Protocol. The protocol used to signify an Internet site is a World-Wide Web site.

• HTML HyperText Markup Language
A convention of codes used to access documents over the World-Wide Web. Without HTML codes, a document would be unreadable by a Web browser.
