History of the United States Since 1865 HIST 157 (3 credits) In studying U.S. history, you will develop a better understanding of how events rooted in the past have shaped the present and may shape the future. This course surveys the major economic, political, social, and intellectual movements that contributed to the rise of the United States as a world power since the Civil War. Topics include: • Cause and effect of U.S. emergence as an industrial world leader • Evolution of political and governmental reforms including women’s rights • U.S. participation in World War I and World War II • Rise of Franklin D. Roosevelt and the New Deal • The Cold War, 1960s social reforms, and Vietnam • The presidency of Ronald Reagan, end of the ColdWar, and U.S. involvement in Middle East conflicts Tuesday and Thursday, 1300-1600 Class number: 86078, GoArmyEd number: 141066 May be applied toward the general education requirement, major or minor requirement in history, and electives.
