History of the International Baccalaureate®

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) was founded in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation.

A group of talented, forward-thinking teachers at the International School of Geneva, with assistance from several other international schools, created the IB Diploma Programme. What started life as a single program for internationally mobile students preparing

for university has today grown into three programs for students aged 3 to 19.

What are the advantages of the IB Program for your child?

1) Teachers are trained and certified by the International Baccalaureate Organization to be IB teachers in their subject areas

2) The IB Programme is respected in the US and abroad as the most challenging high school curriculum a student can undertake

Duke Admissions Chair:

“I consider a full IB Diploma Program to be the most

rigorous high school program a student can pursue.”

3) Students can tailor their IB program to meet their own needs and interests

4) Students in IB are successful in standardized testing

Every student in the IB class of 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 passed all sections of the Georgia High School Graduation Test on their first attempt
