1950-1960s developmentsOriginally, music videos were used

to advertise the music.Tony Bennet walking along hyde

park was filmed as one of the earliest music videos.

Big Bopper would perform his songs in order for them to be aired on television in the 1960s. He was the first to coin the term ‘Rock video’ but it was not particularly notable until the 1980s.

Scoopitone coined in the 1960s and during this time, visuals did loosely relate to the lyrics on music of the songs being played.

Conventions of 1960s music videos

Music videos were usually shot either on tour or on location. An example of a music video shot on tour would be ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ by the Beatles.

A music video from the 60s shot on location would be ‘Jail House Rock’ by Elvis Presley

The modern eraDuring this time we saw the idea of manufactured bands coming into play. Prime examples of manufactured bands could be The Monkeys and S Club 7.

MTV was also founded in 1984 and was considered a visual radio. One of the most famous artists that used MTV to rocket their career forward was Michael Jackson.

Music videos todayThe information from the technology era ment people used MTV a lot less . However, the main industry pushed technology development were the music industry and the porn industry.
