•Raja Harishchandra (1913), by Dadasaheb Phalke, was the first silent feature film made in India.

•The first Indian sound film Ardeshir Irani’s Alam Ara(1931) was a major commercial success

•Both the movie and its music were widely successful Including the hit song "De de khuda ke naam per", which was also the first song of the Indian cinema.

Mother India is a 1957 Hindi epic  melodrama film, directed by Mehboob Khan and starring Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendre Kumar, and Raaj Kumar

The title of the film was chosen to counter American author Katherine Mayo's 1927 polemical book Mother India, which vilified Indian culture.
