The Complete History of the game and teams
1999 - present
Johnstown’s rich football history dates back to the early 1900’s. In the haydays of JHS football the Trojans competed annually against top programs from around the WPIAL and regularly sent top prospects to the college ranks. The 90’s weren’t kind to the Johnstown team playing in the WPIAL and thus for the first time in 2001 the Trojans opened up the season in the LHAC. Future NFL running back Larod Stephens-Howling and Co. led the 2003 team to a district championship appearance and solidified the Trojans place as one of the premier teams in the conference. The future looks bright for the 11’ season with returning starters across the board. The Tyrone football program is another steeped in tradition. The orange and black fans, black eye paint on players and an all-around hostile atmosphere at Grey-Vets Memorial Stadium makes it hard to argue that there has been a more formidable opponent in the last 11 years. With the help of the frenzied orange and black fans at Grey-Vets memorial field, John Franco and the Golden Eagles have created a powerhouse in central PA football. However, since 2004 the Eagles have failed to take the District championship back home. The 2011 season will tell if Tyrone can make it back to the top. Playoff Record: 26-11 70% Overall Record: 127- 24 84% Signature Wins: 99' :Coach Franco and Co. earn a trip to Hershey beating previously undefeated Waynesburg; 99' :AA State Championship against defending champion Mount Carmel was not only a signature win for the Golden Eagle program, but put D6 on the map of Pennsylvania HS Football; 2000: Avenging a season opening loss to Bellwood-Antis, the Golden Eagles found redemption in the D6 AA Title Game; 2004: Having won a second-straight D6 title the Black and Orange blowout the WPIAL champions and heavy favorited Seton La-Salle Rebels Notable Players: 98' - 00' RB Jesse Jones; 02'-04' OL/DT Terry Tate; RB/DB Johnny Franco '05-'07; OL/DL Tyler Hoover '04-'06

The Forest Hills program can be summed up in two words: Don Bailey. By far the longest tenured coach in District 6, Bailey and Rangers have year in and year out been one of the most balanced and successful teams on the field. The success in the past decade merely lifts the stone on the storied program in Sidman. With back to back D6 titles the FH program is once again showing why they are the king of north and come November a truly experienced opponent. Westmont’s program seems to be one of the most unique schools in the district. With no lights at Price Field the Hilltoppers play their games on Saturday afternoons giving the team a much different feel. The 90’s were particularly successful for WH as they competed with the top dogs in FH and Bedford. Blessed with a wealth of talented players over the years Westmont has however failed to break through in the playoffs. Now faced with tough financial troubles the outlook for the program seems bleak. Yet, with a young coach the chance at a truly feel good story can be achieved in the future. Ken Salem led the program from mediocrity to elite starting with the ’01 season where the school won its first district title. Now with a new coach, new facilities and talented players the Crushers look to carry on the traditions left behind by former greats in the past decade. McCort bunced back after a bizarre punt return touchdown to win their first D6 title. 2005: Defeated the defending D6 champion Tyrone Golden Eagles in OT @ Tyrone to advance to the D6 Finals. 2006: Defeated #1 and unbeaten Tyrone to earn first title since '01 2007: Trailing with two minutes to go in 4th quarter against Phillipsburg-Osceola BM was faced with a 3 and 10 from their own one yard line.
