History of Cricket in UAE

In 1892, the United Kingdom took responsibility of the Sheikhdoms, cricket was introduced in what is now the UAE, then “The Trucial States” by the British Army. The game spread during World War II, The Royal Air Force of Britain and other Commonwealth forces (which included first-class and club cricketers from Australia and New Zealand) stationed in the cities like Ajman, Al Ain, Dubai and Sharjah, continued their favourite pastime.

The pitches installed by them around the air base in Sharjah were used by British and other foreign nationals after the war ended. Sharjah residents began playing the Dubai residents in the local derbies which were held in Dubai. The Garden city of Al Ain has the oldest cricket council in the whole of the UAE.

The game was beginning to decline after independence in 1971. However when the Asians began settling in the country, and those from India and Pakistan brought with them a wish to play cricket, the local Arab population, educated in India and Pakistan, set up clubs and domestic tournaments began in the 1980s.

The UAE played their first ODI in 1994 when they played against India and Pakistan in the Austral-Asia Cup, which they also hosted. They qualified for the 1996 World Cup.

In terms of infrastructure, UAE has the best stadiums as compared to other associate members: Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi; DSC Cricket Stadium, Dubai and the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for hosting maximum number of ODIs at a single venue.

This would consist of 16 teams vying to win the coveted winner’s cup to be known as the KPL Dubai T20 Cricket Tournament Cup - Season 2.

The first of its kind T20 Cricket in UAE – Asian Cricketing with Middle Eastern seasoning!

A total of 16 glorious teams consisting of 14 District Teams & 2 Zonal Teams from Kerala.

Each team consists of a minimum of 3 players preferably from the respective districts of Kerala in a playing XI and the remaining from local talent with one player under the age of 22 and maximum of 2 overseas players.

Under the auspices of Dubai Cricket Council• Approved umpires & Technical Committee.• International Cricket Council approved Cricket Grounds.

Bharat Suresh Gopi Bhamaa S. Sreesanth

Suresh Gopi is a national award winning Indian film actor who works mainly in Malayalam cinema. He is famous for his action hero roles. He is noted for his leading roles as well as his character roles. He is also famous for his philanthropic efforts. Currently anchoring the highly popular tv show ‘Ningalkkumakam Kodeeswaran”

Bhamaa is an Indian film actress, who has mainly appeared in Malayalam films. Before her entry into the film industry, she was the host of a show on Kairali TV titled Thaali. Now she is one of the top heroines in Kannada film industry.

Sreesanth has been a member of the Indian Cricket team that won the T20 and 2011 WORLD CUP. Plays for Kerala and has been member of the teams Rajasthan Royals, Kochi Tuskers, Kochi and Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. Right arm pace bowler and a right handed batsman. He is also a well acclaimed dancer and singer.
