Historical Photograph Research Project I. Pick ONE of the attached photographs to study. a. Complete an OPTIC sheet to analyze the photograph. (Homework Grade #1) II. Write a lengthy paragraph regarding your interpretation of how this photograph relates to US History. Be specific. Cite details from the photograph and explain how these details influence your interpretation. (Homework Grade #2) III. Research your photograph. a. Your paper should be 1-2 pages, double-spaced, in Times New Roman font, with one-inch margins. b. Your opening paragraph should include the following information: i. Title of your photo, name of photographer (if applicable), date taken ii. Historical context of picture being taken iii. Thesis statement (last sentence of first para) as to why the photograph is considered historically significant. c. Your second paragraph should discuss the predictions you made about the photograph based on your original interpretation. i. What predictions were correct? ii. What predictions were inaccurate? iii. What clues within the image do you wish you had noticed that you missed during your first interpretation? d. Your third paragraph should discuss why the photograph is historically significant. Include the following information: i. photograph and the time period. i. If you could go back in time and interview the photographer or particular

people in the photograph, what would you ask them?ii. What remains confusing about the photograph and the historical time

period in which it was taken?f. In your final paragraph compare your historical photograph to a current issue or

event. i. Using examples, explain how the historical themes in your photograph

apply to issues today. ii. Include your opinion about the issue presented in your photograph as it

relates to current issues.
