What point did the presenter make about videos just a few years ago and videos now?

That in recent years more women in music videos have been more revealing and sexual than they used to be, and this used to happen mainly in hip hop videos whereas now it has become very common in most genres.

Why were these important in the development of music videos?“Baby one more time” was one of the first songs to have women half dressed and dancing, and was bringing sexual references into music videos.

“The thong song” was one of the first videos having women just in thongs showing off their bodies.

“Dirty” shocked people when it first came out and was very controversial, and very sexual.

How did ‘Tashy Jay’ chose to represent herself in the documentary?She came across as: Stupid, and laid back, and she says that she is a “Professional” dancer, also she was the only girl getting paid for what she was doing. She also said that she was “classy” and that she would never be dressed half naked in a music video.

What was she saying about ‘video girls’ at the shoot?She was saying that the other girls are only trying to get close to the artist and that they have no class.

What did he think about ‘video girls’?He thinks that video girls are there to bring viewers to the video so that even if the song was bad people would still watch the video.

Why do they need these girls in their videos?They need girls in their videos to bring sex appeal to their songs so that it will attract more viewers.

Where did they find all these girls? Wouldn’t it be expensive to pay them all?Many of them turned up from seeing ads on social network sites, and the majority of them do not get paid.

What do you think?I think that these women are being used as sex appeal to attract men to the music videos. We have seen that most of the time these girls are treated badly when they are on set, and are willing to do things most girls would not feel comfortable doing.

This sexual equality expert argues that music videos have a lot to answer for - what’s the issue?She thinks that there is not sexual equality between both sex and the men are shown dominant and women are usually serving them.

What does the government think?The government thinks that this is unacceptable and that young women are being shown as sexual objects.

Music Video Director ‘Digital Dan’ has a lot to say - what does he think of the girls?He thinks that the girls are objects, and are only there to attract men to the videos. He also believes that, as he is paying the girls, they should do everything he tells them to without any questions or objections.

What happened to Alisha?She was sexually assaulted by someone who made an online ad, saying that they where doing a photo shoot and that models where needed. She took him to court, but the jury did not come to a decision therefore he went free.

This lady has been working with artists for years and cast lots of ‘video girls’ - what changes has she seen and what’s her opinion?She noticed that over the years music videos have become raunchier and she believes that women should be able to dance in music videos, but the way they are treated and the way they are displayed is wrong.

Why is she challenged on this performance by the presenter?Because, in the interview with the presenter Tashy Jay said that she would never be in a bikini in a music video, yet she is here.

This is the US ‘Ambassador for Hip Hop’ - what is her view?She believes that men and women are not represented equally in music videos, as men are usually quite overweight and just sitting there in the videos with the women, who are usually half naked, dancing around them.

How has Angel Lola Love’s experience been positive?She has earned a lot of money from the music videos she has been in, and has become very famous in the world of music videos, as she has been in music videos for practically every hip hop artist. She is also trying to re-invent herself as a rap artist so she can gain even more money and popularity.

What conclusions can we draw from this documentary?

We can learn that the world of music videos is not as simple, carefree and happy as it may seem to be, we also learn why

many of these “hip hop honeys” do these videos; a lot of them do it for fame, some do it to get close to the artist, and some do it just to earn a lot of money, but most of them do it because it makes them feel special to know that someone out there wants

them.
