UWA Diwali Function UWA Indian Students celebrated Diwali & Navrathri on 19th July at the Crawley campus. More than 100 students gathered at a colourful event, which was a mix of games, dancing, finger licking food and lots of fun. Mr. Subbarayudu, The Consulate General of India in Perth was the guest for the evening.

The event was organised by a group of students and Professor Hema Sharda.

Pradeepta & Kaveesh from Hindi Samaj introduced students to Hindi Samaj and it’s activities. We signed up 30 new members on the spot! We welcome all our new student members to the Hindi Samaj family. HSWA also sponsored and provided the sound system for the evening and catering was provided from ISKCON Perth temple.

Indian State of Origin Delhi

I work as General Manager ICRAR UWA

My interests are Writing poetry

I am a HSWA member because

I value HSWA and a language based association. Hindi is my mother tongue and I am passionate about ensuring that our younger generations learn to speak Hindi.

I am a proud Hindian beacause

This is the first language I learnt and it is a very rich language that adds tremendous value to my life and to the lives of most Indians. I enjoy speaking, reading and writing in Hindi and love Hindi songs. It has enriched my life in every way!

Favourite Quote “Hindi Hain Hum Vatan Hai Hindustan Hamara”

I love to eat South Indian Food! Love Idli, dosa, vada, sambhar and pappadams! Favourite Indian destination

Delhi as my family lives there and I am privileged to have a very loving and caring family.

I am a proud Indian because of

My Indian upbringing, my values, my belief in the family system, my roots in Indian culture, my love for the colours of India, my passion for the beautiful Indian garments, the flavours of Indian food, the fragrance of Indian flowers, the vibrancy of India where education is a way to achieve something in life, where every parent sees education of their children as their priority, a country where ties and bonds with family and community are very strong. I am a proud Indian and proud to be connected to India, a country with great potential.

I am here to contribute to our society by…

Bringing people together to learn and value Hindi as a language and as a means to know India.

My Australian connection

We came here because my Husband was sponsored by the West Australian Government to join the Department of Agriculture and Food WA. We came in August 2000 and were very well looked after by his Department to settle in Australia. I joined UWA in 2002 and have been there since. Our twins have graduated from UWA as medical practitioners and we are fortunate to have many friends in Perth.

Jaganath Rath Yatra - Fremantle

Like every year, Lord Jaganath's chariot will form part of Fremantle parade, which is an annual event on Fremantle's cultural calendar.

Many devotees come together and pull this chariot through Fremantle for the pleasure of the

Lord and also many visitors attending the parade. It is a great highlight and people love seeing the chariot being pulled physically by a group of enthusiastic souls.

So come along, be part of the procession, join in and pull the chariot for part of whole of the

distance, or just walk along, sing, dance like we do :)

The parade starts at 4pm, so if you wish to join in from the beginning, please arrive by 3:30pm the latest. The parade will begin and end at CAR PARK # 11 on corner of Marine and Essex St in

Fremantle.

The best float in the parade will also be awarded a prize of $500 and the judges will be on KULCHA balcony, so say hi to them as we walk past.

Please make sure you bring some sunscreen and drinking water, especially if you intend to pull it throughout the walk.

This event is SOLD OUT, however Indonesian Consulate may have

some reserved seating. Please contact KULCHA to check if any tickets are released by the

Consulate and made available in future
