PURDUE UNIVERSITY 2017–Present
Himal is currently working on the design and manufacturing of
Composite Leaf Spring as the master’s thesis under Dr. Byron Pipes.
He is also working in the composite design studio under Dr. Michael
Bogdanor which studies the manufacturability of metal parts to
composite parts for industries such as Ford, Boeing, Dupont to name a
few. His work for industrial projects focuses on designing and simulating
the manufacturing processes and correlate them with the experimental
data and uses hands on experience with software’s Abaqus, Catia,
Moldex 3D, Digimat and Dassault System 3D Experience.
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur 2013–2017
Apart from the Bachelors thesis at IIT he worked on the numerical
modeling of heat generation and temperature distribution in friction
stir welding using Ansys Fluent with functions coded to better predict
the experimental process. The work done was selected to be displayed
at ASME Innovative Design Simulation Challenge (IDSC) on 21st Aug'16
at Charlotte, North Carolina, USA and was awarded winner for “Best
Utility in Commercial Category" with a cash prize of $3500 to Himal
and $1000 cash prize to his faculty advisor along with $735 worth
ASME membership to the advisor. He was also an active part of the
FSAE team of IIT Kharagpur and worked in the transmission subsystem.
He designed the Electro-Pneumatic gear shifting mechanism in one-
third the cost of available market product. He was also the nationwide
winner of IET India Scholarship 2016 and was awarded $1500 as the
scholarship money.
