    Introduction :

    Himachal Pradesh is located in North West in India in the lapof the Great Himalayas . It is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir

    in the North , Punjab in the West , Haryana and Uttar Pradeshin the South and Tibet in the East. This beautiful state is

    divided into two parts Southern and Northern Himachal. Thesouthern Himachal also known as lower Himachal is as hot asplain areas ,where as upper is Northern Himachal less hot in

    Summer and extreme cold and heavy snow in Winter.Himachal Pradesh - the land of eternal snow peaks - takes in

    the transition zone from the plains to the high Himalaya and inthe trans-Himalayan region of Lahaul and Spiti, actually

    crosses that mighty barrier to the Tibetan plateau. The Kulluvalley, with its developed and tourist-oriented economy, canbe considered the backbone of the state. Off the east is thewParbati valley, popular with long stay visitors. In the Chambaand Kangra regions can be found typical British hill stations

    and small but beautiful temple complexes.Geography :

    Himachal Pradesh is dominated by mountains and their

    associated rivers and valleys. Himachal Pradesh can be easilysegregated by its valleys. Lahaul consists of the Chandra and

    Bhaga valleys. Further east, the Spiti river joins the Sutlej riverin Kinnaur and flows all the way to the Punjab. In the west, thebeautiful Kangra valley stretches from Mandi to Shahpur, near

    Pathankot.

    ART AND CULTUREIndia is a land built on the foundations of diversity and Himachal Pradesh is no

    exception. Most of the people in Himachal depend on agriculture for livelihood.

    Many people derive their income from sheep, goats, and other cattle. Ninetypercent of the people live in villages and small towns. The dancing is usually

    spontaneous during a village fair and is symbolic of the peace and joy of the

    people. Sari is the most common garment that Himachali women wear

    nowadays. Traditional dresses comprises of Kameez, Kurta and Salwar in

    distinctive Himachali style. Woolen shirts with long coats and sleeveless woolen

    jackets on the top of the coat are the most preferred dress for men.

    o Roerich Gallery (Kullu)

    One km past the castle is the Roerich Gallery, a fine old house displaying theartwork of both the eccentric professor Nicholas Roerich, who died in Naggar in

    1947, and his son, Svetostav Roerich, who died in Bangalore in 1993. Its location

    is delightful and the views over the valley are great.

    o Tibetan Monastery (Manali)

    The colorful pleasant Tibetan Monastery has a carpet making operation. One

    can buy carpets and other Tibetan handicrafts. t, truthful, gentle, and good

    humored.

    Himachal State Museum (Shimla)

    A rich display of the states cultural, artistic and archeological heritage. This is a

    pleasant little museum that has precious little to show in the real sense, but

    whatever little there is, is rather nice to spend a chilly afternoon ducking the

    cold outside.

    Bhuri Singh Museum (Chamba)Named after Raja Bhuri Singh of Chamba, this is a treasure house of Chamba's

    ruling family . Much of the original craftsmanship can still be seen.

    Shimla State Museum (Shimla)

    The Museum was opened in 1974. Preserved and displayed here are over 2000

    art objects, a rich collection of Pahari paintings, antiques borrowed from the

    museums in Delhi and other parts of the country, besides bronzes, woodcraft,

    sculpture, etc.

    Kangra Art Museum (Dharamsala)

    A gallery of miniature paintings from Kangra, a representative collection of

    sculptures, pottery and anthropological items and many more such things are

    there in the Kangra Art museum.

    Sujanpur Tira (Dharamsala)

    This place is famous for the wall paintings and the temples.

    Fairs & Festivals:Ages of rich tradition, warm and hospitable people, a landscape of breathtaking

    variety and beauty - all combine to pack each year in Himachal with a variety of

    fairs, festivals and celebrations. Shivratri, Durga Asthami, Holi, A colorful

    celebration takes place around the old temple of Hidimba at Kullu

    Places of Interest: Narkanda town, some distance from Shimla, is also a quiet peaceful tourist

    spot.

    Dharamsala is a quant little mountain town which is as famous for its views and

    the trails as it is for the fact that it is the Indian abode of the Dalai Lama in exile.

    Dharamsala attracts people and celebrities from the world over. People

    generally come here with the hope of getting a glimpse of the lama and alsobecause Dharamsala is a spiritual haven, energizing people against the

    difficulties and stresses of life.

    MuseumsThe Himachal State Museum displays sculpture, paintings, decorative arts,

    jewellery, wood carvings, manuscripts, arms and armory. Also on view are

    Stone Age tools and implements. prehistoric pottery and terracotta.

    Wildlife

    Himachal Pradesh has a varied topography, climate and forest cover and isendowed with a vast variety of flora and fauna. From times immemorial, this

    tract is known for its wilderness, landscapes, beautiful forests and wildlife.

    Tourist Places to visit in Himachal Pradesh Kullu is a small but popular hill station in Himachal Pradesh. It is called the

    valley of the gods and is famous for its temples, apple orchards and the annual

    Dussehra festival. It attracts a swarm of tourists annually. Kullu is also

    renowned for its handicrafts. Manali is one of the most beautiful hill stations of Himachal Pradesh. It is a

    small town in the Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is mostly visited because

    of its unexplored beauty. The Rohtang Pass is close to Manali and is an ideal

    location to view the most diverse landscapes in the state. The relaxing arms of

    the beauty of Manali is with honeymoon in Himachal.

    Chamba is a picturesque valley situated amidst the Shivalik ranges. It isfamous for its medieval temples and natural beauty. Chamba is also famous for

    its local festivals.

    Shimla is one of India's most famous hill stations. It is named after theGoddess Shyamala, an incarnation of Goddess Kali, the deity of power and

    wrath. You can enjoy the hills, lakes, gardens, markets and a joyful ride up to

    Shimla by Kalka-Shimla toy train.

    There are many other destinations in Himachal Pradesh to go while on

    Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, is also called the "Queen of the HillStations". It was named after its patron Goddesses Shyamala Devi, an

    incarnation of the Goddesses Kali. It was a small village made popular by the

    British who established Shimla as there summer capital in 1864 AD. The entirecity is spread over a 12 km long ridge commanding the view of terraced

    hillsides and cultivations. Shimla has the thick growth of forests of oak, pine, fur

    and rhododendron. There are variety of adventure sports like skiing, trekking

    and golf for the tourists, for their leisure activities.

    Manali is a small hill town in the valley of Kullu. It is referred to as the"Cradle between the Lesser Himalaya". Manali is one of the most beautiful and

    popular hill station known for lush and fresh scenic beauty. It is also a gatewayto Lahaul and Spiti.

    Dalhousie is at a distance of 80 km from Pathankot. The hill station is wellknown for its pleasant climate and beautiful scenery. It is spread over five hills

    and is different from other hill stations. The thick growth of deodars, pine and

    red and pink rhododendrons can be seen all around the hill station. Dalhousie is

    a gateway to the Chamba valley.

    Kufri is a small hill station near Shimla. It is an important tourist placebecause of its closeness with Shimla. The place is known for trekking and

    hiking trails. There are nature parks and picnic spots at Kufri. In winters, one

    can indulge in the winter sports like skiing.

    Dharamshala, at an altitude of 4000 m above sea level, it is located on spurof Dhaulandhar range. The town has rich growth of deodar and pine forests as

    well as tea gardens. Dharamshala literally means 'the holy refuge'. It was

    founded and developed by the British in 1855 as their summer resort. It is

    famous as the abode of the Dalai Lama and is called as the "Little Lhasa'

    because of the large number of Tibetan population. Their 'Government in Exile'

    has headquarters in Dharamshala.

    Chail is a very small hamlet and a hill station where you can discover natureat its best untouched by the pollution, deforestation and modern construction. It

    is an ideal getaway for fresh and tranquil environment in the lap of the nature.
