Christmas revolves around the most precious and incredible gift from heaven ­ the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. And although we know that the actual birth of Christ was not on December 25, it is intriguing to me that the day we celebrate Christmas is quickly followed by the celebration of the New Year. 

The reason this sequence of events intrigues me is because both depend upon the arrival of something new and hopeful. In the case of Christmas we look forward to the birth of an entirely new kind of person. A man who was totally human and at the same time entirely God. This is the anointed Messiah, who would live a perfect and Holy Life and then suffer the death of the cross, so that we might have eternal life in heaven, and consequently so that we can have hope in this life here on earth.

Similarly, when the new year comes we look forward with hopeful anticipation of something unique and better than the one we just left behind. 2020, I think we would all agree is a year that would be hard not to improve upon, and we hope that it is unique and one of a kind. But as Christians who believe in the prophetic word of God, we know that until Jesus comes we cannot depend upon the new year being better or more hopeful, except as it is closer to the return of Jesus.

Therein lies our true hope for the future. Jesus is sitting upon the throne and when He comes again He will make all things new. That is a promise that we can count on! At Village School we look forward to that day, and we strive to live in a way that reflects that great hope. Our prayers for all our Village family is that each one of us will experience the joy of knowing the savior, who came to this world as a newborn babe in a manger and will soon return as a conquering king who will make all things new.
