TBN PRESENTS: JONATHAN AND ABBIIH OLOYEDE

Abbiih, tell us about your sessions... The Balanced Woman series will empower women from the various spheres of society to pursue their dreams, despite juggling different responsibilities. Every woman needs to be pragmatic, prophetic, practical, and prayerful! I urge women to connect with others and ensure they have a mentor. My conversion story is very powerful and will help people know about the saving grace of God. Jonathan, what about your sessions? You Are Spirit will unpack the tremendous realities of our salvation in Christ. You will come away knowing that you are spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body. I want Christians everywhere to become effective disciples who are making disciples. The vision is to raise a million Christ-like believers globally who are expanding the kingdom of God.

How did you feel about filming while keeping to distancing rules? We were not sure what to expect, but the staff and crew made us feel very welcome and settled any nerves!

Jonathan, how did you prepare? Abbiih was fussing over which colours to wear and I wisely steered clear of getting drawn in! Experience has taught me well! We tend to bounce ideas off each other and share our thoughts and creative thinking. We did a lot of this for these recordings. Abbiih, how did you choose the topics? In the end we both settled into our core messages and areas of prime passion. We both feel this is the beginning of a great relationship with TBN UK and would like to thank all TBN UK partners for the fantastic opportunity and tremendous platform to share our hearts with multitudes across the nations.

TBN Presents Jonathan Oloyede airs Tue at 8:30 p.m., repeating Wed at 10:05 a.m. and Sun at 6 p.m. TBN Presents Abbiih Oloyede will follow that series, airing at the same times.

It’s common for people to ask questions like, “Is God listening?” and, “How can I hear from God?” Such questions may come at frustrating moments, or after long periods of waiting. The good news is that the Bible has a lot to say about how God hears us, and how we are able to hear Him. Here are three important things to consider.

God does more than hear us.

When we read scriptures about God hearing us, it’s important that we understand what that means. Often we can believe that God hears us when we pray, while not fully expecting Him to answer in a tangible way. However, when we read the word “hear” in Hebrew scripture, it actually refers to hearing, understanding — and acting. The Hebrew word shema, translated as “hear,” is used to mean both listening and doing. In other words, God takes what we say to Him in prayer, and cares enough to respond and act on our behalf. It’s important to remember that when we read scriptures like: “Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me” (Psalm 27:7, NIV).

We need to act on what we hear.

In ancient Hebrew the word shema is also used synonymously with “obey” — pairing up the act of listening and doing once again. It’s all about hearing the truth and instruction from a source that we trust, and acting on it. We’ve all heard the parental admonition to children: “It goes in one ear and out the other!” We can see a similar phrase used in the Bible, as God says of His children, Israel, that they “have ears but do not hear” (Jeremiah 5:21, NIV). This was said in response to those who refused to hear and obey God’s instruction. The clear message is that simply hearing is not the same as listening. Listening implies that we will seek to understand the instruction given and respond in obedience. In the same way that a parent hopes for such a response from their children, God’s desire is that we respond in obedience to His loving voice.

Some people are unable to hear.

The word shema and the scriptures that contain it remind us of how important it is to pray for those who are unable to listen to God’s voice. Jesus Himself repeatedly distinguished between those who hear His message and those who truly listen and understand. In Matthew 13:13 Jesus declares: “This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’” Many of us are familiar with prayers that ask God to “open the eyes of the blind” and “open people’s ears to hear,” referring to spiritual blindness and deafness. In the same way that Jesus demonstrated His ability to physically heal, He is able to spiritually heal. The Holy Spirit empowers people to “open their ears” so that they can understand and accept God’s Word and instruction for them. As we bear witness to God’s goodness, we should also pray for those with whom we share it. And as Christians, we should pray that we would increasingly hear and heed God’s voice — His Word and His instruction.
