A Higher National Diploma (HND) is a practical two year course that will prepare you for work or entry to university. Our Higher National Diplomas are undergraduate qualifications that are delivered over two years. Depending on the University, a relevant HND qualification will allow you to enter year 2 or even year 3 of a degree programme. Completion of your first year at Harrow College will lead to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) which will allow you to progress onto the second year and completion of the HND.

The HND in Applied Science provides the skills and knowledge demanded of a modern science industry. This specialised vocational programme is designed to equip those who wish to work in chemical related industries, with the skills and the practical expertise to thrive within this cutting edge environment.

You will study the following units:

Inorganic Chemistry Organic Chemistry Physical Chemistry Chemical Laboratory Techniques Analysis of Scientific Data and

Information Biochemistry of Macromolecules and

Metabolic Pathways Medicinal Chemistry Work-based Experience

The course is taught in well-equipped laboratories by a team of specialist lecturers and supported by a qualified learning advisor. Our laboratories are fitted with advanced equipment including a brand new ultraviolet/visible spectrophotometer and conductivity meter. The course is assessed entirely through coursework. The nature of this may include observation and short answer questioning as well as more

traditional report writing and assignments. Practical skills will also be assessed.

The HND in Business is designed for a range of individuals who wish to gain academic understanding of how business works and apply various business notions.

In the first year you will study eight core units:

In the second year you will be expected to choose one of four pathways:

A range of teaching and learning strategies are used throughout the course. This includes formal lectures, presentations, small group activities, talks by guest speakers,

planned business trips, video presentations and a range of other interactive methods. The course is assessed entirely through coursework. This will include: Written essays, written reports, class tests, practical assignments and presentations (individual and small group).

A Higher National Diploma (HND) is a practical two year under graduate course that will prepare you for work or entry to university. Completion of your first year at Harrow College will lead to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) which will allow you to progress onto the second year and completion of the HND.

Depending on the University, completing the HND qualification will allow you to enter a one or two year top up Health and Social Care degree. You might also be able to take a full degree that attracts an NHS Bursary such as nursing or other allied health professions.

*All students are required to undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check, a Fitness for Practice assessment and must confirm that they are fully vaccinated in line with the Uk immunisation schedule (or will be in time for work placement).

aCCess to CampusesParking (Barrier Control) Harrow Weald CampusParking on campus is limited and is controlled from 8.00am to 6.30pm. We cannot guarantee parking for students, although priority is given to disabled students. If you have a specific need for a parking permit you can apply for it at Harrow Weald reception. Please do not park on campus until this has been approved in writing.

Parking (Barrier Control) Harrow on the Hill CampusThere is no parking available on the Harrow on the Hill Campus for students between 8.45am and 5.00pm, although disabled students and their helpers may park on site during class times.Public car parks are available close to Lowlands Road. Please be aware that traffic wardens patrol the area to control unauthorised parking.Parking is normally available at both campuses in the evening and on Saturday at Harrow on the Hill.
