Case Study Lewis Levi

HND Digital Film Production

Almost every daily event is now captured on video and broadcast widely online. Digital film-making has never been in higher demand and the trend looks set to continue. You’ll learn

about script development, casting, filming and editing as well as publishing your work.

The course will prepare you for careers in the film and TV industries and give you a good

grounding in the skills you’d need to set up as an independent film-maker.

A ‘one-to-one’ approach to learning and a thorough approach to the art of storytelling has given a Northampton College student his very own story to tell.

Lewis Levi graduated from the HND Digital Film Production and is now set to see his work appear on national television, with documentaries filmed by his own company, The Rest, scheduled to be shown on mainstream TV channels.

He said: “Working on the documentaries was fantastic and it will be really exciting to see our work shown to a national audience. The experience I gained from the college course has really helped progress my career and I couldn’t recommend it enough; it allows you to find your own voice as a film maker and it gives you a real understanding of storytelling, how stories are constructed and how to break them down.

“The course was superb. Teaching sessions had a very personal feel to them, it felt as though you were getting a lot of one-to-one attention and everyone was part of a team, nobody was left out. Information was presented in an easy to digest way and we were all able to understand the points raised and process them effectively.”

Lewis has gone on to set up his production company with another former Northampton College student and the pair are now moving to London in search of their big break in the world of television and film.

Case Study Nicola Bridges

HND Music Production

If you have an ambition to work in the highly-competitive music industry, you’ll need a

CV full of technical skills and a track record of practical experience. This HND will teach you

all you need to know about recording studio and computer music systems, as well as

programming software including Native Instruments, Cubase 5, Pro Tools 8 and Logic Pro 9.

Once you’ve polished your technical skills, you’ll be on track to find work as a producer or sound engineer in the future!

Professional musician Nicola Bridges has starred on stage and performed her own cabaret show, but decided to head back to the classroom at Northampton College to add another string to her bow.

The self-taught former holiday camp singer, aged 39, started the HND Music Production and is now looking forward to putting what she has learnt into practice.

She said: “I’ve always worked as a musician but I’d never studied it. Coming to college has helped fill in the gaps in my knowledge and it’s incredible to think how much I’ve learnt in such a short space of time. I look back at the way I used to record my own stuff, which I thought was good, and now I can see

where I was going wrong. I’m much more aware now of the techniques I need to be employing to make my tracks sound the best they possibly can.

“Coming back into education after such a long time away from a classroom environment has been a challenge. It really takes you out of your comfort zone, but I’m delighted with the way things have gone and I’m really looking forward to using what I’ve learnt to help me teach young people in the future and also in my own recording career.”
