The College’s reputation for excellence is demonstrated through the achievement of its students, the quality of its teaching, and its strong links with business and industry.
No matter what course or training you want to undertake, at Highbury you are certain to benefit from world-class facilities.
Highbury is in the final stages of a £56m-investment programme. The purpose of this huge redevelopment is to provide you with the best facilities and the latest technology across all departments.
Our recent investment means that you can take advantage of some of the most advanced training resources and learning environments in the country, ensuring that you develop the practical and technical skills you need to succeed.
Building for successThe brand-new, ultra modern Highbury Campus officially opens in September 2009 and will be the largest of Highbury’s five centres. The new building will allow you to benefit from state-of-the-art practical learning facilities, specialist computer training rooms, a fully equipped modern library, and classrooms with the latest e-enabled interactive whiteboards and audio visual equipment.
In addition, the new campus will have iconic new features, including a modern steel and glazed ‘street’ with views of all departments, an internet café with high-speed wireless access and a full-size sports hall and fitness centre.
The redevelopment of the Highbury Campus allows us to provide you with even better facilities and training. Learning in many areas, ranging from engineering and accountancy to business studies and creative and visual arts, will be supported through the use of state-of-the-art facilities including television and radio studios, hair and beauty salons, fully-equipped motor vehicle workshops, a performing arts theatre, art studios with double-height ceilings, and specialist electronic and science laboratories.
The new Campus is a major step forward for the College and will enable everyone to ‘achieve it @ Highbury’.
5 Green CampusThe new Campus will reduce the College’s carbon footprint by over 25%. Environmental features of the building include one of the largest ground source heat pumps in the country, ‘intelligent’ lighting controls and sophisticated photovoltaic or solar cells. The solar cells will allow the direct conversion of light into energy and be able to generate 33,600kWh of energy per year, saving an equivalent of 8,000kg of CO2 – equivalent to five Olympic swimming pools or 500,000 party balloons.

Highbury means businessExcellence in employer engagementHighbury was the first College in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to gain the prestigious Action for Business College accreditation, which reflects the excellent service it provides for employers.
The College offers customised made-to-order training and consultancy to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of individuals and companies. Standard College courses can be adapted according to the requirements of the client. Alternatively, training and study programmes can be specifically designed to meet the needs of business.
Services for business Highbury College has a dedicated Business Development and Innovation (BDI) team, which provides a range of training opportunities specifically for businesses. Training courses can be tailored to meet your requirements and Highbury offers many courses in the workplace, at a location of your choice or at one of the College’s Centres.
If required, a training needs analysis can be undertaken to focus and prioritise company requirements. Contact the team on (023) 9231 3624 for more information.
Apprenticeships and Advanced ApprenticeshipsApprenticeships are a great way of combining on-the-job training with a technical programme, and meeting skills needs of industries ranging from hairdressing and furniture making to bricklaying, plumbing and engineering.
Apprenticeships provide individuals with the chance to gain industry-recognised qualifications, and help businesses keep pace with the latest technology and best practices in their sector.
Training typically lasts between one and three years, and can be industry based or undertaken on a day release or flexible block release basis, depending on the trade and method of delivery. Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships contain an NVQ, a Technical Certificate relevant to the field of study and a Key Skills component.
For further information, please contact (023) 9231 3405.
Train to Gain offers fully-funded trainingTrain to Gain is publicly funded training that helps businesses
improve their performance and boost competitiveness by ensuring all staff have the necessary skills.
A priority of Train to Gain is to enable more adults to achieve their first full Level 2 qualification and improve their basic literacy, numeracy, and language skills. Funding is also available for those achieving a full Level 3 qualification.
Train to Gain is about much more than free funding. It is about understanding exactly what a business needs to stay competitive and sourcing government funds to pay for part, or even all, of the required training.
Highbury College’s Training Advisors can help identify the skills a business needs, and match staff to those requirements. Small businesses (under 50 staff) can apply for a wage subsidy to help with the cost of releasing employees for training.
To find out how your business could benefit from Train to Gain funding, and other publicly funded training and development solutions, email [email protected], or call the employers’ enquiry line on (023) 9231 3624.

IT Provision for the Visually ImpairedHighbury College has an excellent provision for students with visual impairments and can offer first-class support through one-to-one teaching. The provision is based at Highbury City of Portsmouth Centre. Excellent facilities aid students’ learning, including a text-magnifying machine and specialised software such as Zoomtext, Supernova and Jaws. These programmes can zoom in on the text to make it up to thirty-two times bigger than normal, and Jaws has a speech facility so that blind students can listen to what is on the screen.
