Project will comply. Two fire service elevators will share one elevator machine room

and the hotel elevators will be in a separate machine room.

Conference discussion & decisions:

403.6.1* Fire service access

elevator

Key Items: In buildings with occupied floor more than 120 ft. above the lowest level of

fire department vehicle access, a minimum of two fire service access elevators shall be

provided in accordance with Section 403. Indicate location of fire service access

elevators, and how the water prevention requirements of Section 403.6.1.3 will be

complied with. Sump capacity shall be 3000 gph per state code requirements. Note:

Separate shafts, pressurizations systems, and machine rooms are not required for the

two fire service access elevators.

Proposal:

Project will comply. Two fire service access elevators (elevator #8 & #9) have been

provided in accordance with section 403. FSA elevator lobby has a floor slopes away

from the hoistway at a max of 2%. Each hoistway with one or more FSA elevators will

be provided with a total pump capacity of 3,000 gallons per hour (50 gpm) per SBC

3023.1.

Conference discussion & decisions:

403.7* Emergency

operational plan

Key Items: In accordance with SFC Section 404, the building is required to have a Fire Safety

and Emergency Plan. SFC Section 9309 requires that a Fire Safety Director appointed by the

building owner is responsible to oversee the preparedness and initial response of a building’s

fire and life safety systems and building occupants to a fire alarm, in addition to conducting

annual emergency evacuation drills. For more information, see SFD CAMs 5963 and 5982.

Proposal:

Noted. The emergency operation plan will be maintained onsite while building is in

operation.

Conference discussion & decisions:

Chapter 7

712* Vertical openings

Key Items: The code limits the number of stories that can be in common atmosphere with one

another without the required fire barrier separation between them. The plans submitted for the

predesign meeting should show all architectural floor openings including those relating to

escalators. If architectural floor openings reach the threshold meeting the definition of an

atrium, the atrium code requirement shall be addressed. Note any garage elevators or duct

system using the provisions of Section 712.

Proposal:

1. Four levels (L1-L4) are open to each other via a shaft that contains Stair#1.

The shaft continues for two more levels (L5-L6)

a. Please confirm that four levels may be interconnected (not fire

separated by each other) by floor openings (forming a shaft) for an

exit access stairway that complies SBC 1019 that is not used as a

required means of egress.

b. For stories other than four described in (a), each story will be

separated from the shaft by 2-hour wall and 90 minute self or auto

closing fire rated opening protection.

Please confirm the strategy complies with Sections 712 and 713 of the SBC

Conference discussion & decisions:

CHAPTER 10, MEANS OF EGRESS

Chapter 10* General Key Items: Provide an exiting plan and describe any issues requiring interpretation or

a code alternate or code modification. Indicate occupancy loads and load factors for

all assembly type spaces. Clearly note all locations where exit access stairways are

being proposed. Code Alternate/

Modification

(form attached)

Proposal:

1. On Level 3 the Pre-function space shows a Common Path of travel distance as

60’. Please confirm this path and travel distance is code compliant per the

definition of Common Path of Travel, Chapter 2. At the end point of the 60’

travel distance the occupant has 2 choices of an exit. See Exhibit A

2. At Level 34, (2) exits are required from both the interior amenity space and

the exterior amenity space. One of the 2 exits from the interior amenity

space requires travel through the outdoor amenity space to a door that

leads back inside the building. Please confirm this exiting plan is acceptable

and the corridor that connects the outdoor amenity space to stair 3 does

not need to be part of the 2HR stair enclosure. See G215 Level 34 3. Exit separation measurement 1007.1.1.1 Exception 1. On Level 31, please

confirm our understanding that when measuring separation of exits, the

measurement can be taken from any point along a door. See Sheet G

4. Is exiting from one meeting room through another compliant with SBC

1016.2. See Exhibit C

a. Please confirm that a meeting room can egress through an adjacent

meeting room as an accessory space.

b. Please confirm that exiting through an operable partition is acceptable

5. SBC 1005.6. It is unclear in the code if the discharge level landing where

convergence occurs is calculated as a horizontal element of egress using

0.15”/person or 0.2”/person.

a. Please confirm that the stair landing at level 1 discharge should

be sized (in length) at 0.15” per person.

6. At Level 1, stair discharges of Stair 6 and Stair 3 need to be ‘readily visible

and identifiable from point of termination to enclosure’.

a. Please confirm that the stair discharges on Level 1 comply with

“readily visible and identifiable from point of termination to

enclosure” for application of SBC 1023.

7. Assembly uses, as defined by Table 1004.2.1, are to be calculated as “net”

rather than gross.

a. It is our understanding based on net versus gross definitions that

circulation areas are not loaded when stories are primarily

assembly use.

b. Pre-function areas are considered non-simultaneous use to the

main assembly area they serve. In our exiting calculations we have

determined the max occupancy of ‘both’ spaces in a simultaneous

use situation, and have selected the higher occupancy space as
