LYRECO Toner Cartridges Recycling Process and Green Facts

Acting responsibly towards the environment is a key part of our manufacturing process.

Lyreco products are produced with a combination of new key components and used original parts. Lyreco recycling boxes are provided Free of Charge for the collection of Empty Cartridges. Useful parts

of empty cartridges are re-used in the production process while the unusable parts are individually recycled as part of our zero waste program.

All Lyreco cartridges are produced with a new Long Life Optical Drum Unit.

The optical drum and the new toner powder are strictly coordinated for optimum quality. Furthermore, all critical components, including chips and electronic contacts are replaced with new components.

Throughout the production process all cartridges are subject to stringent, comprehensive and

independent quality checks and testing procedures. This ensures the quality standards of the Lyreco toner cartridges. For example, every cartridge is individually tested at the end of the production process

including end of line print tests. Our production facilities are monitored under ISO regulations. Our quality management is certified under ISO 9001 and our Environmental Management under ISO 14001.

In addition to which Lyreco toner cartridges also meet the Nordic Swan criteria of Eco-labeling.

Manufacturing of Lyreco toner cartridges essentially means the re-use of plastic and metals while

saving energy and reducing waste. The recycling process reduces about 25% of the CO2 emissions.

At the production sites of the Lyreco toner cartridges almost all non-usable parts are

included in the ZERO WASTE recycling programme and processed into valuable resources.

Lyreco toner cartridges are produced according to strict Nordic Swan eco-labeling directives. The use of the “Nordic Swan” is restricted to manufacturers who can prove that their production methods conform to the strict environmental criteria demanded by the certification authorities. These methods reduce energy and water consumption. Reduction in pollutant emissions is also

achieved for better environment and guaranteed sustainability.

MANUFACTURING STEPS

2. EMPTIES COLLECTION All Empty Cartridges collected are sorted and graded in advance, with the aim to

use only virgin Empties (empty OEM cartridges) to ensure the best possible use of

raw material.

3. PARTS PREPARATION

Empty Cartridges that are qualified for the Lyreco production are carefully

disassembled and cleaned using a state-of-the-art process.

During this process all components are checked .

Only after they are approved for production will they be sorted by component to be

used in production afterwards.

1. INCOMING GOODS INSPECTION For all components that are used during production

(e.g. drums, toner, blades, chips, rollers, etc) we have defined parameters.

Based on the defined parameters we do batch inspection on all incoming goods. If

components do not meet these, they will be rejected.

4. SEALING

Every Toner tank that requires a seal will be sealed with an OEM style seal, that

ensures a leak-free cartridge without toner dust emission when un-sealing the

cartridge, guaranteeing easy handling and OEM emulation for your customers.

5. DIGITAL FILLING Each cartridge will be filled with the defined amount of toner by using digital,

automated filling equipment. Our qualified toners emulate OEM performance.

The toner used always matches with the OPC drum used.

10. RECYCLING / ZERO WASTE INITIATIVE We aim to use all cartridges that we collect. Nevertheless we receive a small

amount of cartridges that cannot be used . These cartridges and other material

(packing material, used drums & hoppers, as well as non-conforming components)

are than disassembled and recycled. Using our “Zero-Waste” approach we are

sorting, disassembling, and pre-milling all collected materials (e.g. cardboard,

plastic, aluminum, etc) and make these raw materials available to the market as

valuable resources.

6. PRODUCTION

All cartridges are manufactured in batches using processes comparable to OEM

cartridge production. All required raw materials are prepared according to the

production batches and are assembled by qualified and well trained technicians.

Lyreco Toner cartridges are manufactured with a combination of new key

components and used original, retrieved from parts preparation.

Quality Control undertakes regular inspection on each production step, and every

cartridge will be marked with a barcode for traceability.

7. 100% END-OF-LINE TESTING Every cartridge produced will be tested at the end of the production line. This is done

using defined industry standards that are based on ISO standards, to enable us to

ensure outstanding performance & quality that at least meet the OEM product.

8. PACKAGING All cartridges are finally inspected to assure that they meet our quality standards. All

packaging conforms to the ISTA packing standard. Cardboard is made from recycled

paper and all inlays – cardboard or foil bags- are environmental friendly. Furthermore,

a full set of instructions, trouble shooting, warranty & Nordic Swan information is

included.

9. QUALITY MANAGEMENT In addition to incoming inspection our Quality Engineers monitor & control each step in

our manufacturing process. During production they control all production steps to

guarantee that Lyreco cartridges will meet it’s customers expectation. We routinely

take cartridges from production and perform life tests

WARRANTY

Your complete satisfaction is guaranteed on all Lyreco toner cartridges.

We guarantee that your Lyreco cartridge is free from defects

in materials and workmanship.

In the unlikely event that an Lyreco product does not perform satisfactorily

when used as directed, Lyreco will replace the product at no charge.

Lyreco guarantees that the products will not damage the

purchaser’s printer if used in accordance with the instructions

and specifications stated in the printer

manual and/or on the product itself. Lyreco will cover any costs required to

repair your printer, should a defect in your Lyreco cartridge cause damage to

your machine. Should you incur a repair bill as a result of a

defect in a Lyreco cartridge, just provide us with the bill, the damage parts,

the defective cartridge and a signed statement from an authorized service

technician detailing the cause of the damage.

All Lyreco laser toner cartridges have a warranty that is valid for 24 months

from date of production. The warranty expiry date is printed

on the top of each box.
