4-H OSU Summer Conference

Lake County Intermediate and Senior 4-H Members, With the end of the school year fast approaching it’s time to start thinking about 4-H Summer Conferences held at Oregon State University. Summer Conference will be held June 27th—30th with registration due June 1st. Classes are assigned on a first come first served basis. So if you’re looking to get into the rock climbing class you must register quickly!!! The cost of Summer Conference will be $200. There will be four chaperones attending Summer Conference from Lake County and they have graciously agreed to drive. There will be room for up to 17 participants in the four vehicles. If we have more than 17 (which I hope we do) youth from North Lake County will utilize the bus from Bend, due to the lower bus fee and direct route to OSU. The fee for these attendees would be covered by funds secured already. Please make checks (no cash) for $200 payable to the Oregon 4-H Foundation. Don’t forget about the two scholarship opportunities that are available to all Lake County youth at-tending. More information about the scholarships and application forms are available at the Extension Office or available online, at the website below. Applications for both scholarships are due to the Lake County Extension Office by May 20th. Please turn in both the scholarship applications and your Summer Conference registration to the Lake County Extension Office and not to the 4-H State Office. If you have any questions about the 4-H Summer Conference please do not hesitate to ask me. As a planning member of this conference I can assure you that the class conference schedule is awesome and there are some really great field trips planned. 4-H Ranch Horse Clinics

Are you interested in learning more about the 4-H ranch horse program?

We are trying to gauge interest in a series of 1-day clinics to be conducted by Roger Linton on

Bob Warner’s arena on the Westside and would be free to all 4-H kids. Weather permitting,

the clinics would begin in April and last through the season in preparation of the 4-H Horse

Show. If you are interested, or have planning input, please contact Leigh Ann Evans at

Livestock Clinic…. Out for Bid!

Great Opportunity for a collaborative 4-H Junior Leadership Project

Over the last four years the Extension Office, with assistance from 4-H clubs, volunteers and leaders, has facilitated a livestock clinic. This year we are trying a new approach which will allow older youth, 4-H junior leader or an entire club to take a leadership role by planning a livestock clinic for the county. Essentially the livestock clinic is being placed out for a bid as the 4-H Leaders Association allocates money each year for educational clinics. These funds can cover the costs of educational supplies, facility rentals, refreshments as well as assist with travel for out of the area clinicians. Those who wish to organize and host this years clinic should plan to make a brief presentation covering the items below at the May 22nd Leaders Association Meeting. 4-H Leaders and Junior Leaders will have the opportunity to share their input and a decision will be made by the 4-H Council on which proposal(s) to fund. For more information please contact Jamie at the OSU Extension Office Items to include in your presentation: Tentative date, time and location of the clinic Species of animals will be used/showcased (Please note, not all species need to be used/showcased) Who will be the clinicians and what skills will be presented Proposed budget of the clinic Any other details you would like to share
