Scholarship Committee Fall Report

News in regards to the 2017-2018 (collegiate year) scholarship recipients: Hanna Gottman (Durant - UCF); Sydney Hostelley (East Bay – USF), Aaron Nelson (Lennard – UCF); Sara Hostelley (East Bay’s Salutatorian – USF), John Paul Collins (Jesuit – FSU); Courtney Burnette (East Bay – UCF); Doug Williams (East Bay - UCF), Natalie E. Behen (Lennard – HCC)

All scholarships have been fully funded.

All recipients met our scholarship criteria requirements: an Apollo Beach residents (33572) and accepted at a Florida college or university. All the college-bound recipients showed outstanding scholastic accomplishments, served in leadership roles, had excel-lent recommendations and the required community service. Each showed financial need.

The ABWC awarded a total of $11,200 to 8 high school graduates from East Bay, Lennard and Durant High Schools. The awards were seven $1,500 scholarships to students at-tending a four year Florida college or university and one $700 scholarship to a student attending Hillsborough Community College - SouthShore Campus, 2 year degree program.

I would like to extend a special thank you to my ABWC scholarship committee members and the College and Career Counselors East Bay and Lennard High Schools, Toby Loukmas and Mindy Edgeman respectively, for a job well done.

Bridge Club

We welcome back any return-ing vacationers and invite all of you to ask a friend to join us and potentially become a new member of our ABWC. We play social bridge and bridge play-ing spouses are also encouraged to participate. The Club luncheon had to be canceled due to Irma, but our bridge group planned our meeting for September 25 and hopefully all went smoothly for our first fall meeting. Upcoming dates for play are Monday mornings, October 23 and November 27 at 9:30 am at the Apollo Beach Golf Club Cafe at 801 Golf and Sea Boule-vard, AB. New players are invited, but we do re-quire reservations, so that we can have the required 4 at each table. Contact Sharron Brunk at 813-672-3553 or email [email protected].

Starting this year, as you may have no-ticed, we have changed the name of our Garden Club to the Garden and Craft Club.

Several ladies, who are not into gardening, had asked if we would add some craft items to our schedule. So, this fall we are starting off on Tues. October 17th, with a Fall Floral Centerpiece Class, being held at the Apollo Beach Rec. Center.

Also on Thurs. October 26th we have added an extra nonscheduled trip, to visit the Al-paca Magic Farm in Homosassa, Fl. This should be a fun trip, visiting the animals, taking a walk through their garden, of unu-sual perennials and trees, along with checking out the Gift Shop, with many beautiful items.

Mark your calendars for Tues. November 14th for a trip to Eureka Springs.

Tues. December 5th we will be joining the Culture Club for a trip to Bok Towers.

On Wed. December 20th we will be having our annual Luncheon and Plant Exchange.

So please check out our full schedule for day and time, and please note that most activities will no longer be held on the third Wednesday of the month.

So, come and join us for a fun new year.
