President’s Message Fall 2017
Dear Ladies,
Welcome back! Back to
what we hope will be a fun
filled year for all. I hope you
have enjoyed a wonderful
summer with your family and friends. I
also hope to see you soon at the lunch-
eon and the many events we have in
store for you.
And I thank God for keeping us all out of
harm’s way during hurricane Irma. What
a time that was, huh? Especially for the
newbie’s who have never been through
a hurricane. Our beautiful sunny city-
it’s the reason we love living in sunny
Florida.
We have some fun planned for you.
First, we will be kicking off our Trunk
Show on Tuesday, October 24th from
3:00pm- 6:00pm at the Apollo Bistro.
Tickets are $10.00, come enjoy snacks
as you shop till -you drop from looking
at the latest fashion jewelry, purses and
clothing from Accessories & More. You
will see fashions modeled by some of
our fabulous ladies!!! Last year this
event raised $1240 for scholarships.
Come and plan to laugh (because Clau-
dia Gassett who chairs this event-will
surely make you laugh) she promises!!
We have two brand new fundraisers
planned; “A Mystery Dinner Theater” on
Sunday, March 11th at 12:30pm at the
Apollo Bistro; chaired by Dr. Cyd Char-
row. And a Paint Party chaired by Jean-
ette Doyle which is part of our Garden/
Craft Club. Scheduled for Saturday, Jan-
uary 13th from 10:00am-1:00pm. You will
learn much more about these new
events as time moves on and as we get
closer to them.
We will also have our annual bake sale
on Tuesday, November 21st, our wine
and cheese party Friday, February 2nd
chaired by Maria Wiegman; as well as
another fabulous bus trip on April 23rd-
26th to Amelia Island, Jacksonville, St.
Augustine! And once again Peggy Palm-
eri and Marlene are heading this up.
Quote from Peggy Palmeri-“Last year’s
trip was so much fun everyone was ask-
ing when the next trip was before they
even returned home”!! Sounds like some
more fun is on its way!!
And thank you to Bevery Brooks for re-
turning as 1st VP of Programs this year.
We missed the first program scheduled-
but- we hope to see you on October 11th
to hear Raleigh Barnes, from the Apollo
Beach Recreation Center for Hills-
borough Parks. I have heard this young
man speak and he is very informative
and passionate, just a great speaker. I
hope you join us. Please remember to
send in your money to Sharon Vasquez
by Friday, October 6th at 5:00pm. The
luncheons cost $18.00 with $2.00 going
towards scholarships. And remember
the December luncheon will cost $20.00
since we will be at Southshore Falls.
I want to welcome and thank our new
board members: Beverly Brooks-1st VP
of Programs, Adrienne Covias-Treasurer,
Barbara Lamneck-Bake Sale and Chap-
lain, Carol Kock and Teresa Wittmer-
Culture Club, Sheila May- Newsletter,
Pat McChesney-Hospitality and Nancy
Ducharme-Ways and Means/Vendors .
And I thank all the board members for
their time and commitment to our club!
Also as you look over this newsletter
notice the business ads- that Grace
McKee recruited. Please stop by these
businesses as you shop and thank them
for their donation. Last year’s ad dona-
tions brought in $1400 for scholarships!
You wanna have fun? Get involved, at-
tend the luncheons, attend the club
events, join a club do what you can…
come to the fundraisers…and remember
this year’s motto---Let’s have FUN!!!!
Now let the FUN begin!

Each showed financial need.
The ABWC awarded a total of $11,200 to 8 high school graduates from East Bay, Lennard and Durant High Schools. The awards were seven $1,500 scholarships to students at-tending a four year Florida college or university and one $700 scholarship to a student attending Hillsborough Community College - SouthShore Campus, 2 year degree program.
I would like to extend a special thank you to my ABWC scholarship committee members and the College and Career Counselors East Bay and Lennard High Schools, Toby Loukmas and Mindy Edgeman respectively, for a job well done.

Bridge Club
We welcome back any return-ing vacationers and invite all of you to ask a friend to join us and potentially become a new member of our ABWC. We play social bridge and bridge play-ing spouses are also encouraged to participate. The Club luncheon had to be canceled due to Irma, but our bridge group planned our meeting for September 25 and hopefully all went smoothly for our first fall meeting. Upcoming dates for play are Monday mornings, October 23 and November 27 at 9:30 am at the Apollo Beach Golf Club Cafe at 801 Golf and Sea Boule-vard, AB. New players are invited, but we do re-quire reservations, so that we can have the required 4 at each table. Contact Sharron Brunk at 813-672-3553 or email [email protected].
Starting this year, as you may have no-ticed, we have changed the name of our Garden Club to the Garden and Craft Club.
Several ladies, who are not into gardening, had asked if we would add some craft items to our schedule. So, this fall we are starting off on Tues. October 17th, with a Fall Floral Centerpiece Class, being held at the Apollo Beach Rec. Center.
Also on Thurs. October 26th we have added an extra nonscheduled trip, to visit the Al-paca Magic Farm in Homosassa, Fl. This should be a fun trip, visiting the animals, taking a walk through their garden, of unu-sual perennials and trees, along with checking out the Gift Shop, with many beautiful items.
Mark your calendars for Tues. November 14th for a trip to Eureka Springs.
Tues. December 5th we will be joining the Culture Club for a trip to Bok Towers.
On Wed. December 20th we will be having our annual Luncheon and Plant Exchange.
So please check out our full schedule for day and time, and please note that most activities will no longer be held on the third Wednesday of the month.
So, come and join us for a fun new year.
