JUST PREPARED NEW PROJECTS FOR YOUCATIONIC SOFTENERS

[EIRI-1760]Softening of textile materials was probablycarried out in prehistoric times and hascontinued till toDay. Most of the Softeningagents are derived from straight chain fattyradicals containing 12 to 18 carbon atoms. Afabric softener is a liquid composition added towashing machines during the rinse cycle tomake clothes feel better to the touch. Theseproducts work by depositing lubricatingchemicals on the fabric that make it feel softer, reduce static cling, and impar t a freshfragrance. The first fabric softeners weredeveloped by the textile industry during theearly twentieth century. At that time the processthat was used to dye cotton fibers left themfeeling harsh. In the early 1900s, preparationsknown as cotton softeners were developed toimprove the feel of these fibers after dyeing. Atypical cotton softener consisted of seven partswater, three parts soap, and one part olive, corn, or tallow oil. With advances in organicchemistry, new compounds were created thatcould soften fabric more effectively. Theseimproved formulations soon found their way intothe commercial market. By the 1960s severalmajor marketers, including Procter andGamble, had begun selling liquid fabric softenercompositions for home use.

BANANA CHIPS (USINGMICROWAVE DRYING

TECHNOLOGY) [EIRI-1762]Banana is the one of richest iron source greenvegetable. It can be preserved for 3 months ormore by reducing moisture in it. this may bedone by drying procedure or frying procedure. This is preserving art of green vegetable forlong time. The keeping quality of food materialsis greatly improved by the reduction in theirwater contents. Fruits, leafy vegetables, meat, fish, and dairy product containing highpercentage of water deteriorate more rapidlythan root crops and cereals which arecomparatively dry. Drying by exposure to thesun is the method adopted in several countriesfor prolonging the storage life of fruits and fish.In India, more food is preserved by sun-dryingthan by any other means. Vegetables liketapicoca, chillies, peas, turmeric and ginger, fruits like figs, amla, mango, banana, andcoconut, and fruits are preserved by sun-drying.

TRIETHYLENE GLYCOL FROMMEG/DEG, ETHYLENE OXIDE &

WATER [EIRI-1763]Triethylene glycol, TEG, or triglycol is a colorlessodorless viscous liquid with molecular formulaHOCH2CH2OCH2CH2OCH2CH2OH. It is used as a plasticizer for vinyl. It is also used in air sanitizer products, such as“Oust” or “Clean and Pure”. When aerosolizedit acts as a disinfectant. Glycols are also usedas liquid desiccants for natural gas and in airconditioning systems. It is an additive forhydraulic fluids and brake fluids and is used asa base for “smoke machine” fluid in theentertainment industry. Triethylene glycol is amember of a homologous series of dihydroxyalcohols. It is a colorless, odorless and stableliquid with high viscosity and a high boiling point.Apart from its use as a raw material in themanufacture and synthesis of other products,TEG is known for its hygroscopic quality and itsability to dehumidify fluids. This liquid is misciblewith water, and at a pressure of 101.325 kPahas a boiling point of 286.5 degrees Celsius anda melting point of -7 degrees C. It is also solublein ethanol, acetone, acetic acid, glycerin, pyridine, aldehydes; slightly soluble in diethylether; and insoluble in oil, fat and mosthydrocarbons. TEG is prepared commerciallyas a co-product of the oxidation of ethylene athigh temperature in the presence of silver oxidecatalyst, followed by hydration of ethylene oxideto yield mono (one)-, di (two)-, tri (three) - andtetra ethylene glycol.

BENEFICATION OF GRAPHITEORE [EIRI-1764]

Graphite is one of three pure forms of carbon(C, atomic number 6), the others being diamondand fullerenes. It is grey to black in colour, opaque, and often has a metallic lustre. It is asoft, light mineral, is flexible but not elastic andhas a high melting point of 3,390°C. Graphite’slayer atomic structure is responsible for manyof its unique properties. It exhibits both metallicand non-metallic properties, including highthermal resistance, lubricity, inertness as wellas thermal and electrical conductivity. Most ofgraphite usage toDay is in refractoryapplications. Other key industrial applicationsfor graphite include lubricants, steelmaking, metal casting, brake linings.

WATER, EDIBLE OILS,ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES(COUNTRY LIQUOR & IMFL)

ETC. [Eiri-1335]While PET bottle development was proceedingin the US, a large manufacturer of injectionmoulding machines in Japan, was leading aproject to develop a machine to make biaxiallyoriented PP (polypropylene) containers. Theyrecognized that the prototype machine couldbe used to produce the new PET bottles and,in December 1975, the One-stage ASB-150injection stretch blow moulding machine formaking the new biaxial oriented PET bottleswas unveiled. All one-stage injection stretchblow moulding machines derived from thisoriginal Stretch Blow design are referred toas classic one-stage machines, as the concepthas long since been extended into other PETdevelopments. The classic one-stage machinesdesign is extremely versatile in that the samebasic machine design can be used to makea wide variety of bottles and jars in all shapesand sizes, which was the standard single-stagemachine in the early years, had eight cavitiesfor 1.5 litre bottles. Stretch blow molding isbest known for producing PET bottlescommonly used for water, juice and a varietyof other products. Stretch blow molding hasbeen used since the early 1970’s especiallyfor packaging detergent, and has grown inexistence with the primary use for makingcarbonated beverage bottles.

LIQUID GLUCOSE ANDMALTODEXTRIN FROM

BROKEN RICE [EIRI-1472]Starch is a group of polysacchrides, composedof glucopyranose units joined together by-glucosidric linkages. It conforms to themolecular formula, (C6-H10O5) u, where nvaries from a few hundred to over one million.Starch is found as the reserve carbonhydratein various parts of plants and is enzymaticallybroken down to gluose to other erbohydratesaccording to the metabollic needs of the plants.Industrially, starch is broadly divided into twotypes viz, natural and modified. Naturalstarches, also designated as unmodifiedstarches or simply starches, are obtained fromgrains such as and sorghum. from roots likepotato, tapioca and arrow root, and from thepith of the stems of certain palms such a sago. They are further classified into cereal starchesand root starches. The characteristics of thenatural starches are changed by chemical orenzymatic action and the products of thesereactions are termed modified starches. Thisgroup includes dextrins, acid-modifiedstarches, oxidized starches, starch esters, starch ethers, dialdehyde starches, and cationicstarches.

B.O.P.P SELF ADHESIVE TAPES[Eiri-1508]

BOPP adhesive tape which is quite a recentdevelopment in the field of modern packaging.Which is rapidly replacing the cello tape due toits excellent mechanical, optical and barrierproperties. It is widely accepted for thedecorative, flexible packing operations and hasgained a spectrum of popularity. BOPPadhesive tape is a pressure sensitive selfadhesive tape. It is a combination of pressuresensitive adhesive and BOPP film. In dry form,it is a aggressively tacky at room temperatureand adheres firmly to even rough surface. BOPPfilm is highly resistant to weather, heat, aerialoxidation and others. That is why it is used forpacking purposes. The pressure sensitive selfadhesive BOPP tape has various applicationin packaging industry. It has very goodproperties. Local production of Biaxially orientedfilm first commenced in the country toward June1980 in Tamil Nadu and subsequently two moreplants have come on stream, one each inMaharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The currentproduction and market so far established forBOPP film has not kept pace with plant capacityas the plants are reportedly operating at 30 to35% level due to various constrain The plantshave been supplied by overseas manufacturersands operate both the flat tenter and the bubbleroute of production. Two of the three plantswhich are currently operating have thelamination on their inability to produce a co-extruded heat seal coating leading to restrictionin their marketability.

Provision of drinking water supply, or in otherwords ‘piped’ water supply to urban and ruralpopulation, constitutes an important aspectof developmental programmes in manycountries. Among several materials for pipesand fittings, plastics, though of recent origin, have offered vast potentialities both economicaland technical for exploitation by the engineers, architects and builders of the plastic materials, polyethylene (low and high density) andunplasticized PVC (rigid PVC) have been theprime contender, though to a fairly smallerextent, polypropylene and ABS have made theirappearance in this field. A whole range ofsanitary fittings and fixtures viz, taps, showers, gratings, basin and sink wastes, waste traps, float balls and valves, syphons for flushingcystems, are also currently available in themarket, moulded in different suitable plastics.

EPHEDRINE HYDROCHLORIDE(KETOL) [Eiri-1365]

The Chinese herb mixture “Ma Huang” hasbeen used empirically by native physicians formore than 5000 years. “Ma Huang”, whichcontains ophedrine, has also been widely usedin U.S.S.R.in the treatment of various disorders. While the my driatic activity of the alkaloidephedrine was first demonstrated in 1887 byMiura, the use of ephedrine as a my driaticenjoyed only a passing vogue. Internationalinterest in the drug was stimulated in 1924 bythe classical investigations of Chen andSchmidt, who reported its cardiovasculareffects, its similarity to epinephrine, and its

absorption from the intestinal tract. Ephedrine(1-phenyl-2-methylaminopropanol) (C6 H5 CHCOH) CH (NH. CH3). CH3 is optically active(Levorotatory) form, which is white to colourlessgranules, pieces or crystals, hygroscopic innature and gradually decomposes on exposureto light. It is soluble in water, alcohol, ether, chloroform and oils. Its major use in medicineis as bronchodilator.

FATLIQUOR FOR LEATHERAPPLICATIONS USING

CHLORINATED PARAFFIN WAX[Eiri-1291]

Fat liquors basically are lubricants for leather. The final softness, feel and touch of leather aredetermined by use of different fat liquors.Technically fatliquors are surface-activesoftening agents and are used in the last of thewet processes stage of leather manufacture.Soap is one form or the other was the onlycleaning wetting, emulsifying and dispersingagent available. Its ability to stand hard waterand acid led to its development as a productpossessing the valuable properties of soapwithout its defects. The first successful attempttowards this was of Frany a Frenchman whostudied the effects of concentrated sulfuric acidon olive oil, but it was A Runge who firstprepared sulphated olive oil in 1854 by firstreacting the olive oil with concentrated sulfuricacid and then neutralized the resultant productwith cold caustic potash solution.

STEEL BRIGHT BARS[Eiri-1197]

The Bright bars are basically the raw materialfor a number of industries engaged in themanufacture of items such as bolts, nuts, shafts Iron bar etc. By virtue of the finishedsurface, which is smooth and with in thedesigned tolerances bright bars are normallydrawn round, square pentagonal or hexagonal. In is proposed to define briefly a rolling millwe are concerned mainly with hot rolling mill, that is mill in which the steel is heated to asuitable temperature before rolling takes place.A hot mill, mill stand consists of two three ormore cylindrical metal rolls usually mountedhorizontally in bearing at their ends andvertically above each other. SPUN BONDED NON WOVENFABRIC PRODUCTION

[EIRI-0875]A non-woven fabric is a sheet structure madefrom fibres held together by mechanical, chemical, thermal or solvent means, or by acombination of these. The term does notinclude hopes, or fabrics which are woven, knitted, tufted, stitch-banded or made by woolfelting. In comparatively simple terms, a non-woven may be described as a fabric havingtextile-like properties, which is prepared bybanding fibres together, rather than by thetraditional method of spinning into yarns, followed by weaving. Non-woven fabrics findtheir applications as carpets, blankets, upholstry, floor coverings, wall-coverings,automotive carpets, etc. The fibres principallyused are polyester, nylon and viscose withoccasionally, small amounts of acrylic. Thesefibres are blended in varying amounts, depending on the type of interfacing beingmade. Techniques by which fabrics are madedirectly from the fibres, by passing bothspinning and weaving, have been utilized forcenturies in the production of felt and bark cloth.

Thesepanels are used widely as exterior covering ofcommercial buildings and corporate houses. While adding to aesthetic beauty of thestructure, they are also resistant to acid, alkalisalt spray, pollution and provide good thermalas well as sound insulation. These Panels arewidely used due easy maintenance in almostany kind of climate through normal wash with

water and mild detergent that ensures longlasting performance.

EPDM RUBBER PROFILES(WEATHER STRIPS,

INDUSTRIAL MONO STRIPSETC.) [EIRI-1492]

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer Rubber, also named as EPDM in short, is the polymerof ethylene and propylene. Large scalecommercial production began in 1963 and thecurrent overall global consumption of EFPMare 8,00,000 tons per year. EPDM is polyolefine- categorized and has excellent performanceof vulcanization and its gravity is the lowestamong all rubbers. These are radon

copolymers of the two hydrocarbons ethyleneand propylene with the ethylene varying from40 to 70% by weight. This produces a saturatedrubber, EPM, which has to be vulcanized withperoxide systems.

HDPE, PVC, LLDPE PIPES/TUBES & FITTING [EIRI-1497]

PVC is a thermosetting plastic. In other words,it can only be softened and molded into formonce. If it is softened and remolded a secondtime it will lose some of it’s favorablecharacteristics. PVC is very corrosion resistant. It is not a conductor and will not have anelectrochemical reaction with acids and basesthat it comes in contact with. For this reason,PVC is sometimes used to coat other materialsfor protection. PVC also has a high chemicalresistance. While it will react with somechemicals, there are a large number ofchemicals it will not react with, making it anexcellent product for industrial applications.PVC is not without it’s faults.
