The leaders you support through Haggai Institutes uniquely

transformational program are active in almost every nation and culture.

IMPACT reports from the frontlines around the globe, where these men

and women are changing the world.

A donor recently quoted a amily proverb: Money is only as good as the good itwill do. In each issue o IMPACT, you see an update which lists the number oInternational-trained alumni, National-trained alumni, and alumni associations. Nowthat we have passed a total o 90,000 alumni, many are expressing eagerness to pass100,000. The increasing numbers are encouraging, but they are more than statistics. They are indicators o good that is being done around the globe through leadersinspired and empowered by Haggai Institute training. National ministry multiplies thegood that a donors investment has set in motion.

    The Haggai InstituteVision Goes Viral

    Dr. Beverly Y. Upton

A ew days ago, I stood shoulder

to shoulder with a very specialgroup o leaders.

They are the men and womeno Indias National Alumni

    Association. This year, they

    celebrate 25 years o equipping

    Indian leaders to evangelize.

    Most are International-trained

    alumni. All are committed to

    bringing Haggai Institutes

methods into the heart o their

    nation and culture.

Was I moved? Almost to tears.

    What a testimony to our

    donors impact on the worlds

second largest nation. And ithas all been done through the

    leverage o National ministry!

    National ministry embraces the

    vision o Haggai Institute and

    oers training that drives our

    mission orward.

    Through National ministry,

leaders unable to attend anInternational Training Session

    can still receive the Haggai

    Institute experience oten

    in their own language and

    through curricula tailored to

the needs o their particularculture or proessional group.

    National Training Seminars

    and Regional Training

    Seminars are accredited by

    Haggai Institute and must be

    residential, at least ve days

in length, and acilitated byan approved aculty member.

    Standards and ormats or

    local, city, and area seminars

    are more fexible and are

    adapted to meet specic local

    training needs.

And heres the amazingthing: none o these seminars

    requires unding rom our

    donors.

In the last ew years, National

ministry has gone viral, and alumni associations now

    fourish in more than 100

    countries. Training others

to do the same is no longer

a background detail: it is a

key part o the multiplicationthat prepares more leaders to

    evangelize.

    The outcomes in evangelism,

    Christian infuence, and even

    the development o uture

    aculty are huge.

    For donors, those who ignite

    the entire process through their

unding o the InternationalTraining Sessions, this new

    development only makes

    Haggai Institute an even better

    return on investment.

    3

National ministry embraces the vision of Haggai Institute

and offers training that drives our mission forward.

Only six years separate the frst InternationalTraining Session and the frst National TrainingSeminar. Today, two-thirds o the alumni impactingtheir nations were trained at the national level, and

many more have been equipped or evangelismthrough local seminars. National ministry shows theglobal community in action.

    1. What is H.I. National ministry?

The term National ministry describes all the alumni-drivenactivities and programs worldwide including all levels oseminars, National aculty development, and alumni associations.

    2. Why do National ministries exist?

Many alumni want to collaborate in order to pass on their trainingand to evangelize their nations. Typically, they start at the local orcity level. Later, local alumni associations join together to createa national association, which will usually act in a coordinatingrole or all the alumni activity in a country. Brazil has a uniquecorporate model where a group o International-trained alumnirun National Training Seminars and shorter training events geared

toward churches and Christian organizations.3. How many alumni associations are there?

Right now, there are 490 alumni associations in 107 nations. Thenumber is going up all the time.

    4. What sort o training happens in National ministry?

The type that most closely resembles International TrainingSessions is the National Training Seminar. This must be residential,

last at least ve days, and be acilitated by an approved acultymember. In addition, alumni associations run a variety o localor area seminars that are tailored to meet particular local needs, including weekend and three-day events. In all countries exceptBrazil, training is initiated and run by local alumni associations, with national associations providing guidance, support, acultycoordination, and (in the case o National Training Seminars)ormal accreditation.

    5. Why not send everyone to an International TrainingSession?Eight thousand ully qualied leaders who are fuent in English,

Arabic, or Mandarin are waiting or places in our InternationalTraining Sessions. But many capable national leaders are unableto attend an International Training Session due to time, resources, and language constraints. National ministry extends HaggaiInstitute training to these men and women, equipping them toreach cultures and language groups where evangelism skills arebadly needed.

    Recently, weset up the

    Haggai Institute

    Alumni Advisory

    Council (HIAAC)

    to build a bridge

    on a global level

    between Haggai

    Institute and

    the activities

    o the alumni,

    helping to

    keep everyone

    ocused on the

    original vision

    and mission.

    6. Who unds the National Training

Seminars?Since 1988, H.I. alumni have raisedlocal unds to run their National ministry

programs. For donors in the West, thisrepresents a massive leverage o theirinvestment in Haggai Institute.

    7. Does Haggai Institute set up alumni

associations? No. Alumni associations are grassrootsmovements ormed by alumni, butwe do provide encouragement and

assistance through a team o InternationalRepresentatives who work closely withalumni associations to identiy utureapplicants or International TrainingSessions.

    8. How much control does Haggai

    Institute have over National ministries?

The cooperation o alumni is spontaneous,

not centrally organized. We haveagreements with National alumniassociations to saeguard trainingstandards, our logo and our trademark, and in return, the National alumniassociations administer these agreementswith the local associations. Recently, weset up the Haggai Institute Alumni Advisory

Council (HIAAC) to build a bridge on aglobal level between Haggai Institute andthe activities o the alumni, helping to keepeveryone ocused on the original visionand mission. The group meets every threeyears and is composed o the presidentsand secretaries/executive directors o thevarious National alumni associations.

    9. How many National-trained andLocal-trained alumni does Haggai

Institute have?At the beginning o 2013, there were62,468 National-trained alumni. Inaddition, based on the programs o onlythree countries, we estimate that well over200,000 people have received local or areatraining.

    10. Do those fgures include

    the 100 others that

    International-trained alumni

    commit to train?

Only partly. Some alumniserve as aculty members inNational ministry. But a majorityo the participants do not belongto an association and are passing ontheir training in their own churches andorganizations.

    11. Are aculty trained or National

Training Seminars?Yes. National alumni associations mustprovide proper aculty development inorder to lead National Training Seminars.Worldwide, there are now more than 1,000National aculty members.

    12. Do National-trained alumni go

    on to become International-trained

alumni? In a ew cases, National-trained alumniapply to attend an International TrainingSession. We have no ocial count, but weestimate less than ve percent attend bothlevels o training.

    13. What is a Regional Training

Seminar? These are specialized events whereNational alumni associations worktogether to provide training across twoor more countries. For instance, anevent held in French-speaking Arica islabeled a Regional Training Seminar whenparticipants come rom two or moredierent countries.

    14. Why are training programs held in

the Middle East and in Mandarin now

    classifed as International Training

    Sessions?

This refects the strategic importanceattached to the Middle East and China.

Also, both programs are centrally undedand meet the same training standard asthe English-language programs taught at

the Mid-Pacic Center and Chiang Mai.National alumni associations in MiddleEastern nations like Egypt and the United

Arab Emirates also run their own NationalTraining Seminars.

    15. Do National ministries ocus only

    on training?

No. Where National ministries spring up,

alumni are making the Haggai Institutevision happen. They pray together, sharetheir goals, and sometimes team up toevangelize.

AND THE THINGS YOU HAVE HEARDME SAY IN THE PRESENCE OF MANYWITNESSES ENTRUST TO RELIABLE

In April 2013, the Haggai Institute

    India Alumni Ministry celebrated its

Silver Jubilee. It has already trained

over 5,800 leaders at the National

level and has 105 city alumniassociations. Sundar Sangma, VP o

believes that the key to Indias success

is the alumnis ownership o the

to sustain the ministry. With so many

Being a donor gives us the

    ability to aect peoples lives

    in many countries around the

    world, says Charles Dunkin.

Over the years, weve met many

    Christian leaders rom dierent

parts o the world and heard

    their testimonies o what they

have been able to accomplish or

Christ. Getting to know some o

those leaders weve had a part

in training has meant so much

to us and inspired us to keep

    giving.

    Charles and his wie, Gladys,

    have supported Haggai Institute

    or 40 years.

    The son o a sharecropper,

    Charles grew up in Dallas

    County, Alabama. Ater high

    school, he joined the Army,

    married his high school

    sweetheart, and eventually

    attended the University o

    Alabama.

    He joined Joe Lewis and

    Associates, a sales and

    marketing company. In 1970,

he became a partner, and the

    company changed to Dunkin-

    Lewis, Inc.

Back then, we had ve people

    covering 10 southeastern states.

Now, we have 40 employeesand over 100 part-time sta,

and we represent more than 40

    manuacturers in the hunting

    and shing industries, he says.

I met Dr. Haggai through J.I.

    McCormick, one o the ounding

    members o Haggai Institute.

Ater talking to Dr. Haggai andhearing him outline Haggai

    Institutes mission, I knew we

    needed to support what he

was doing. It is the most cost-

eective way we know to reach

    people or Christ.

    Charles gives more than

money, however. He servedon Haggai Institutes board or

many years and is a trustee

    emeritus. Ive had the most

    rewarding experience being part

    o Haggai Institute. Now, our

    granddaughter, board member

Grace Marie Small, is carrying on

    the tradition.

    DR. JOHN EDMUND HAGGAI

Buy One and Get One Free!

    My riends know I requently

    underestimate.

Buy One and Get One Free

    underestimates the benet o

    National ministry by a

long way.Where else can donors support

    a world-class, world-changing

ministry and get a second one

    thrown in or no charge?

But that is exactly what happens

    when Haggai Institutes

    International-trained alumni join

orces in their home nations. Theyound H.I. alumni associations

and get down to the business o

    reproducing the training program

    or local leaders.

    A National Training Seminar

    provides unique benets:

    It strengthens the national

    leaders through the unique

    power o community.

It allows them to do Haggai

    Institute training in the same

    language.

It takes place in a single

    cultural environment.

It ensures that participantsshare common goals in terms

    o national interests.

    In addition, a National Training

    Seminar gives the advantage o

    immediate and relevant eedback.

    Communications in a National

    Training Seminar include

    illustrations understood by allparticipants.

    A National Training Seminar

    gives the participants the benet

    o interactive creativity that

    relates to their unique evangelism

    challenges and eorts.

Since 1969, our International-trained alumni have pledged to

pass on their training. We ask

them to reach an additional 100

    leaders with Haggai Institute

    skills, and our research shows

that, on average, they ar exceed

    that goal.

    National Training Seminars

    provide a support structure to

that commitment, includingcurriculum requirements and a

    system to train national aculty.

    In the early years, donors

    generously unded that program.

    Today, donors contribute nothing:

it rests on the power o the Holy

    Spirit and the determination

o alumni to carry orward the

    vision o Haggai Institute with

    their own resources.
