One Day National Conference Organised by

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Universty

(A Central University) Vidya Vihar, Raebareli Road,

Lucknow, 226025

About the University

The Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow is

one of the premier Central Universities in the country established on

10th January 1996 to promote advanced knowledge, to offer

appropriate courses relevant for the development of socially and

educationally depressed section of the people, including agricultural

technology and rural crafts; to promote the study of the principles

for which Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar worked during his lifetime,

to pay special attention to the promotion of educational and

economic interests and welfare of the people in general and

members belonging to the SC/ST in particular.

About Lucknow:

Lucknow, the city situated on the banks of the river Gomti

popularly known as the city of the Nawabs and Nawabi culture

worldwide. It is also known as the Golden City of the East, Shiraz-i-

Hind and The Constantinople of India. Lucknow is a beautiful city

and famous for its historical monuments which were built during the

ancient times and still retains its old world charm. Lucknow is also

famous for its traditional cuisine, fine arts and the most courteous

people you will ever find in India. It is the capital city of Uttar

Pradesh and stands out as a city that takes pride in the endearing.

Objectives of Conference:

• The Conference will facilitate sharing of knowledge and

provide platform to understand interdisciplinary relevance

of Dr. Ambedkar’s views and scholarly contributions.

• To provide interactive sessions and expert-led discussions

on wide and pervasive influence of Dr. Ambedkar's opinion

on Legal, Social, Economical, Scientific, Technical, and

Managerial development.

• To provide a forum to promising and young scholars to

contribute their erudition and views to academia and

society on multifaceted vision of Dr. Ambedkar for an

egalitarian and developed society.

Concept Note:

University has been celebrating the birth anniversary of

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar since inception in a very befitting

manner through organising conferences, seminars, workshops and

lectures etc. that proved to be true confluence of knowledge, wisdom

and equanimity. These celebrations have been instrumental in

synthesizing thoughts that contributes to shaping efforts for social

engineering and inclusive growth in Nation building.

The pace of change in today's social scenario is increasing,

and continuous change and maintenance of high standards of

governance, social inclusion and balanced development have become

inevitable requisites of the nation's success. In this vibrant milieu,

where expectations of people are high and disadvantage group of

society is aspiring vigorously to be get their share of growth and

development, changing to secure a better future for all is need of the

hour. However any change needs unyielding efforts of change agent

who could set directions of future development. Babasaheb’s

thoughts have been known to provide enough food for thought and

contemplation touching different aspects of social and economic

development. However limiting contemplations of Babasaheb only

to social and economic dimension will be injustice to his colossal

contributions to academia and administration. In fact Babasaheb has

had such holistic and integrated approach in his ideas of social

engineering and inclusive development that it covered different

dimensions of academics including, but not limited to, Legal studies,

Science, Technology, Management, Entrepreneurship and

Agriculture studies. There exists tremendous potential to bring social

justice and inclusive development in sustainable manner by

understanding and applying his multidisciplinary ideas. Babasaheb

had argued about developing micro enterprises at village level to

make rural poor economically active. He emphasised application of

technology in agriculture to improve productivity, application of

welfare schemes in managing large industries, financial efficiency

through independence in revenue generation by local civic bodies to

improve federal financial system followed by British government in

India, development of technology to improve industrial efficiency as

well as national security and ideation of legal cover for social

equality.

Dr. Ambedkar was a rational thinker and had strongly

advocated to strengthen the relationship among nature, society and

science. His approaches to deal with various problems facing the

nation were scientific and rational. His is the pioneering contribution

in the development of the national policy for water and electricity in

the country. The origin of Central Water Commission, the Central

Electricity Authority, as technical bodies to oversee the centre-state

issues on irrigation and electric power, respectively is the great

contribution of Babasaheb. The concept of multipurpose

development of river valley basin in India has been introduced by

Dr. Ambedkar and initiated some of the well known river valley

projects on the Damodar, Mahanadi and Sone rivers. To mark the

Ambedkar's contribution to water resource management of the

country, the central government of India has decided in 2016 to

celebrate his birth anniversary 14th April as Water day.

A close scrutiny ushers Babasaheb truly touched multiple

disciplines in making us understand and follow practices that could

bring uniform as well as inclusive development of nation.

Unfortunately not much of his multidisciplinary thoughts have been

explored and understood.

Given the contemporary legal, social, economic and political

scenario of country, understanding Babasaheb’s interdisciplinary

thoughts and applying for national transformations has become much

pertinent and relevant. Thus, the need of the hour in country today is

the application of Babasaheb’s interdisciplinary thoughts for Nation

building.

Babasaheb's interdisciplinary thoughts aligned with national

policy can help the country to achieve balanced growth and gain

social equality. The conference aims looking at the interdisciplinary

contributions of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar that helped nation

till now to achieve collective and inclusive growth and will keep

fulfilling nation's future aspiration of prosperity coupled with

equality and inclusion. The conference also aims to promote linkages

among the academic community, society and industry experts having

interests in exploring without limitations and boundaries of academic

disciplines, Babasaheb's thoughts and teachings for shaping future

that India aspires. Further the conference will also provide an

opportunity to young promising scholars of various disciplines to

share their scholarly findings and ideas for shaping better future of

country and also throwing light on contributions of Babasaheb in

various academic disciplines.

The one day conference will cover the following thematic

clusters. An indicative list of sub-themes is mentioned below: -

Sub Themes of Conference:

1. LAW, SOCIAL SCIENCES & HUMANITIES Understanding the nature of Indian society and the caste

system before independence is essential to study the contributions of

Ambedkar to Law and Justice. In light of the peculiar social system

existed in India before independence, Ambedkar has proposed

several remedial measures as well as laws to address the exploitative

social system and also to bridge the gap between various castes or

social groups in the country. With a noble intention to make

participation of major citizenry Dr. Ambedkar put forth a broader

perspective than the generally perceived idea of political liberty,

equality and fraternity. His emphasis was on social and economic

dimensions of democracy. To understand and explore contributions

Law, is the integral part of conference.

can be useful in economic planning and policy making to shape

inclusive India. Entrepreneurship is the process of identifying,

creating and realising opportunities for new business or social

ventures. Entrepreneurship involves a wide scope of activities such

as evaluating ideas, sourcing and organising resources, and weighing

the risks and rewards associated with the new ventures. Strong belief

of Babasaheb on transforming role of small and micro

national products, it is only Indian agricultural which can manage a

sixteen percent (16 %) world population feeding with it's a agro
