    Action Minutes In Italics

    1. 6:30 pm: Welcome and Introductions: Board of Directors, Mary and Sam Waters, Co-Presidents;

    Frank Hart, Vice-President, Shealy McCoy, Secretary; Betty McCoy, Treasurer; Frank Cox, Member-at-Large. Last board meeting: Sunday, September 12, 2010

    2. Approval of September 15, 2010 Agenda. The Agenda was posted on the HHNA Blog and sent out

    by email on the Monday before the September 15 meeting.

    The Agenda was approved.

    3. Approval of the May 11, 2010 general meeting minutes: HHNA did not meet in June, July, andAugust. A series of meetings were held concerning the historic designation, its process, and implications

    for the neighborhood. Sets of meetings were held on July 6, July 7, July 26, August 4, August 10, andAugust 15, 2010.

    The Minutes were approved.

    4. Crime Report: City of Columbia Police Department

    Recent break-ins were reported on Devereaux Road and Whitaker Avenue. Several suspects have beenarrested that were linked to crimes in the neighborhood.

    5. District IV Councilwoman: The Honorable Leona Plaugh, City of Columbia

    Ms. Plaugh expressed her gratitude to being elected to City Council.

    6. Eagle Scout Project: John Sadler: GIS mapping of the canopy trees on city property, between setbacklines and roads. The GIS mapping did not include trees that are on private property.

    John Sadler gave the final report of the GIS mapping project.

    7. Ron Anderson: Citizens of a Greater Midlands: The Transportation Penny Plan.

    Ron Anderson distributed flyers concerning The Transportation Penny Sales Tax. The ballot questionsare scheduled to be voted on, Election Day, November 2.

    8. 7:00 pm: Guest Speaker: Amy Moore, Preservation Planner with the City of Columbia, Topic: Theproposed Heathwood historic designation.

    Amy Moore presented a complete PowerPoint on the information that was discussed at the summermeetings.

    9. Preserve America Community Designation: The City of Columbia received notification from the

    White House that we have been designated a Preserve America community. This designation is madefollowing a competitive application process and recognizes Columbia as a place that protects and

    celebrates its heritage, uses its historic assets for economic development and community revitalization;and encourages people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and

    heritage tourism programs. For more information please go to

    10. 7:45 pm: Treasurers Report: Betty McCoy, Treasurer

    The balance in the account was: $1,465.71

    11. District IV Update Report: Jeff Rainwater, City of Columbia: Office: 545-3383; Cell: 315-7018

    12. Columbia Council of Neighborhoods (CCN) Report: CCN is a citywide organization consisting of

    recognized neighborhoods in the City of Columbia. When it began, 32 years ago, CCN was comprised ofless than 15 neighborhoods. Today, 106 neighborhoods in the City of Columbia belong to the

    organization. CCNs mission is to Honor, Educate, Assist and Reach (HEAR) the neighborhoods,

    residents and communities across the City of Columbia and beyond.

    National Night Out: CCN partnered with the City of Columbias Community Development Department,

    and the Columbia Police Department, to sponsor the 3rd Annual National Night Out events. The 2010theme was Give Neighborhood Crime and Drugs a Going Away Party.

    CCN Holiday Social Drop In: Saturday, December 11, Chamber of Commerce, 930 Richland Street, from

    6 until 9 pm.

    13. Meeting schedule for remainder of 2010:

    September: Monday, September 20 from 6:30-8:00 pm. Proposed Heathwood historic designation

    meeting for those that could not attend tonights meeting.

    October: Tuesday, October 12 Proposed HHNA vote on historic designation

    November: Tuesday, November 9: Ceremony: Heathwood neighborhood outdoor exhibit debut by the

    Historic Columbia Foundation: Guest Speaker, John Sherrer, Director of Cultural Resources, Historic

    Columbia Foundation

    December: No HHNA general meeting will be held. You are invited to attend the Columbia Council of

    Neighborhoods Holiday Social Drop-In on December 11 at the Chamber of Commerce, 930 Richland

    Street, from 6 until 9 pm.

    14. 8:00 pm: Adjourn
