Healing Hearts For Benjamin (HHFB)

HHFB was created in February of 2012 in memory of Benjamin James Harmon.

Benjamin was born six weeks pre-mature with a Congenital Heart Defect ( H y p o p l a s t i c R i g h t H e a r t ) a n d D o w n Syndrome.

B e n j a m i n r e c e i v e d exceptional care and family centered attention while enduring multiple open heart surgeries and procedures over a 7 1/2 month stay in intensive care at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, VA,.

On February 2nd, 2012, precious baby Benjamin, surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with the Lord. He was 8 1/2 months old.

Benjamin’s life and the care he received at CHKD inspired the Harmon family to establish the HHFB Endowment Fund at CHKD to support Cardiac Programs and families impacted by Congenital Heart Defects (CHD).

Their hope is, Benjamin’s legacy, will be one of “Healing Hearts”.

- Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) are conditions which are present at birth and affect how a baby’s heart works.

- CHD is considered the most common of all birth defects.

- CHD is a leading cause of birth-defect related deaths worldwide.

- In the United States, an average of 40,000 infants are born with a heart defect each year.

- CHD affects approximately 1.8 million families in the United States.

- About 1 million adults in the United States are living with CHD.

- Despite its broad spanning impact, a relatively small amount of funding is currently available for parent/patient educational services, research, and support of CHD.

Healing Hearts For Benjamin is funded by donations from generous individuals, organizations, and contributors, with a desire to support CHKD’s Cardiac Programs.
