Het wezendorp Neerbosch
In 1863 stichtte de evangelist Johannes van ’t Lindenhout een weeshuis in een voormalige herberg in Nijmegen. Zijn initiatief groeide in de polders buiten de stad in dertig jaar tijd uit tot een wezendorp met ruim vijftig hectare grond, 41 gebouwen en ruim 1100 bewoners. En dat volledig gebaseerd op giften van particulieren, gemeentelijke armenzorgverenigingen en kerkelijke diaconieën. Deze studie beschrijft de ontstaansgeschiedenis van dit wezendorp, de grootste residentiële instelling van Nederland in de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw. Daarbij is veel aandacht voor de protestants-christelijke signatuur van de weesinrichting en hoe die doorwerkte in de pedagogische uitgangspunten van Van ’t Lindenhout en in de dagelijkse opvoeding van de kinderen.
