Hebrews 11:1–12:2

BIBLE STORY FOR TODDLERSPeople who love Jesus live by faith. Faith is when you believe something that you have not seen. We cannot love God without having faith. Faith tells us that God is real, His words are true, and He takes care of us when we trust Him. Many people in the Bible had faith in God. Abraham believed God’s promise to give him a big family. Joseph in Egypt had faith that God would bring His people to the promised land. Moses had faith that God would save His people from the king of Egypt. Rahab had faith that God would save her family when Jericho fell. Many people in the Bible trusted that God would send Jesus! We have faith that God sent Jesus to rescue us.

Babies Activities

LOOK IN THE BIBLEProvide hand-size Bibles for babies. Open the Bible to Hebrews 11. Show the Bible story picture as you say the Gospel Gems. Read the key passage card. SAY: We have faith that God sent Jesus to rescue us. GOD HELPS US

LOVE HIM. [Pray for the babies.]

SING A SONGSing to the tune of “The More We Get Together”:“ God sends the Holy Spirit to help us, to help us! God sends the Holy Spirit to help us love Him! We love God, obey Him, and tell friends about Him! God sends the Holy Spirit to help us love Him!”

SAY: GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM by faith in His words.

MAKE FAITH ARTWrite FAITH with double-sided tape on construction paper for each baby. Place it in a ziplock bag with a handful of mustard seeds. Seal the bag with duct tape. Help babies shake and squish the bag. Remove the art and cover it with clear contact plastic. SAY: The Bible says faith as small as a mustard seed is powerful. Faith is believing that God keeps His promises. GOD HELPS US

LOVE HIM by faith.

HEROES OF FAITH PEEKABOOPrint the “Heroes of Faith” printable. Flip the pictures faceup. Pause to make sure babies see the picture. Flip facedown and play again. SAY: Many people in the Bible had faith in God. We have faith that God sent Jesus to rescue us. GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM.

Check diapers, serve bottles if needed, and release babies to parents according to your church’s security guidelines. Give parents today’s big picture card. Repeat the Gospel Gems and Bible-learning activities for babies who stay a second hour.

Toddler Activities

CIRCLE TIME (5 MINUTES) Provide small Bibles for toddlers to handle. Read the key passage card. Open your Bible to Hebrews 11. Show the Bible story picture as you tell the story. Say the Main Point and Gospel Gems. Pray.

SING A SONGSing “Father Abraham” and perform the motions with the toddlers. Do not worry if the toddlers cannot keep up; they will enjoy watching you! Check out the song and motions online before class.SAY: Faith is believing that God keeps His promises. Abraham trusted God would give him a big family. GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM.

SLEEP AND WAKE UPInvite toddlers to lay down and pretend to sleep. They must sit up and cheer when you say, “Wake up!” Briefly review how God was with Joseph in Egypt and helped him explain the king’s dream.SAY: GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM. Many people in the Bible had faith in God. We have faith that God sent Jesus to rescue us.

WORK PUZZLESPrint the “Heroes of Faith” printable. Cut the picture into three or four strips. Help toddlers put the puzzles together as you review.SAY: Many people in the Bible had faith in God. Faith is believing that God keeps His promises. GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM.

LOOK AT INSECTS AND FROGSProvide large rubber grasshoppers, flies, and frogs for toddlers to examine. Remind toddlers how God used these creeping things to keep a special promise.SAY: Moses had faith that God would save His people from the king of Egypt—and He did! We have faith that God sent Jesus to rescue us. GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM.

TRANSITION ACTIVITY: STARRY ARTProvide sidewalk chalk, star stickers, and construction paper for each toddler to make a starry scene. For chalk, keep wipes handy.SAY: Many people in the Bible had faith in God. Abraham had faith God would give him more family members than the stars in the sky—and God did! GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM by faith.

KNOCK DOWN JERICHOProvide blocks and encourage toddlers to build a city. Invite toddlers to knock down the walls, and then play again.SAY: Many people in the Bible had faith in God. Rahab had faith God would keep her family safe—and He did! Faith is believing that God keeps His promises. GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM.

FLOAT BASKETS IN THE WATERProvide a small plastic container with one inch of water. Provide silicone or aluminum cupcake liners for toddlers to float in the water. Briefly review how God protected Moses.SAY: Many people in the Bible had faith in God. Moses’ parents had faith that God would protect Moses, and He did! We have faith that God sent Jesus to rescue us, and He did! GOD HELPS US LOVE HIM.

Check diapers, serve a snack if needed, and release toddlers to parents according to your church’s security procedures. Give parents today’s big picture card to reinforce today’s Bible story, Main Point, or Gospel Gems throughout the week.
