Major updates of the month under ‘Support A Pond’

1. The restoration and rejuvenation work in Mojabad pond have recently been completed. The site was

graced by Mr. Amit Khatri (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram, Mr. Satyaprakash Jaravaata, MLA, Pataudi, Mr. Pradeep Kumar, SDM, Pataudi; Mr. Narinder Sarwan, DDPO, Gurugram; Mr. Ravi Pahuja and Ms. Sarika Panda Bhatt from the advisory team after the completion of the site.

2. Mr. Upendra Prasad Singh (IAS) Secretary-Ministry of Water Resources visited the Mojabad and Bilaspur ponds. The purpose of the visit was to understand and review the work of pond restoration and rejuvenation on the sites. The visit was accompanied by Mr. Narinder Sarwan, DDPO, Gurugram and members of the GuruJal team.

3. Pre-feasibility report of Yakubpur pond complete and proposal has been submitted. Currently the pond

is moderately polluted by solid waste dumping, and a large content of organic pollution is seen as streams of cattle dung are directly released into the pond. The odor and colour of the water provide evidence to the mentioned. Cattles are also seen bathing in the water body.

4. Pre-feasibility report of Dadri Toe pond is complete and proposal has been submitted. Dadri Toe is village located approximately 14 km from the District headquarters of Jhajjar, and is located within the block Jhajjar. According to the Sarpanch of the village, the three-pond system is currently fully functional. The wastewater in the three-pond system is received in the first pond. Currently there is evidence of solid waste dumping in the unpaved roads that surround the pond; the water quality on the surface does not show evidence of treatment that it receives. Apart from sedimentation and settling that the three-pond system would be able to provide, a level of biological treatment would be required. Due to the heavy eutrophication seen during the physical survey and the lack of appropriate flora that could provide biological treatment to the water is absent.

5. Final Detailed Project Report (DPR) OF Subhash Nagar pond has been submitted to Municipal Corpora- tion of Gurugram.

6. Pond profiling of 28 ponds of MC Sohna has been completed this month.

7. Received administrative approval for Dharampur-I, Wazirpur, Kasan and Bhondsi pond sites.

8. Construction work started in Dharampur-I.

Major updates of the month under ‘Biodiversity Management’

1. Site visit at Damdama village with the on boarded interns for the pre-study of biodiversity parks. The purpose of the visit was to know more the local species of flora and fauna native to Aravalli hills. The visit was performed by the program management unit of GuruJal society. Mr. Sunil Harsana, ecologist from the Mangar village, Fraidabad accompanied the team for guidance in identification and better understanding of the local species. The profound knowledge of Mr. Sunil helped the team in gathering important information about the various invasive species in these areas. Also, some major characteristics of these invasive species were noted. Following is the list of some of the native species that were identified during the visit:

2. Preparation of questionnaire for the survey to be conducted for the local residents of Damdama and Kherla

village. The survey will be performed for the evaluation of the dependency of the villagers on the proposed site for the biodiversity parks.

Major updates of the month under ‘Waterproofing’

The arrival of monsoon in the district calls for an urgent need of proper functioning Rainwater Harvesting Structures in the public areas. Almost 27 Rainwater Harvesting Structures were cleaned by MCG workers in the month of September.

Major updates of the month under ‘Connect the Drops’

1. A meeting was held with the advisory team of GuruJal on 03.09.20. The meeting was attended by the

members of the advisory team and the members of the program management unit of GuruJal Society.

2. Received clearance for the second round of ‘The Water Change Maker Aawards 2020’.

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) Water ChangeMaker Awards are a new initiative that seeks to highlight experiences in the way water management decisions have increased water security.

The 2020 theme for the ChangeMaker Awards is “Building climate resilience by changing water decisions,” aligning with the 2020 World Water Day theme of “Water and Climate Change.”

3. Mr. Sachin Kumar, Assistant Manager-Technical, GuruJal, presented as a speaker on behalf of Ms. Shubhi Kesarwani, Program Manager, GuruJal in a webinar themed on “Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting: Issues and Challenges”.

4. Application for the ‘Global Water Congress 2020’ submitted. Organized by ‘Environment and Social Development Association’ (ESDA) Global Water Congressis an E-Conference & E-Competition under the national campaign of water conservation- Jal Kranti Mission (water conservation by public participation) by ESDA. This global event will be held on 2nd - 4th October 2020 in collaboration with CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi, GD Goenka University Gurugram, Amity University Gurugram, CPCB Alumni Association, Indian Water Works Association and MSME Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India and others eminent institutions.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

1. GuruJal facilitated the District Administration of Gurugram in conducting a DGPS and Drone training to understand the utility of these technologies in Svamitvya Yojana. Swamitvya Yojna was launched on Panchayati Raj Diwas on the 24th April 2020, by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendera Modi for rural inhabited lands. The plan enables the integration of the latest technologies of demarcation such as drone technologies and DGPS. The use of technology would enable more accurate, streamlined and efficient demarcation processes to take place on the ground. It was a 2- day training program which involved practical session on the second day.

Day 1: Theoretical Training on Demarcation with Drone and DGPS.

The following were the main points of discussion - Role of Aerial Photography (By Drones)

o It is impossible to mark with satellite images, so drone images are used. o Drones take photographs from a certain height which help in surveying, mapping, and also cut down

on time consuming then manual surveying. o It is cost effective and time efficient in comparison to manual surveying. o Maintenance of drones is also easy. o It also provides 3D spatial images with depth and height of the subject also.

2. Proposal of Jal Shakti museum submitted to the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The intention of creating a JALSHAKTI SANGHRALAYE is to create an embodiment of values and mission of create a Water Positive Environment. This will be done through designing and constructing the Museum and R&D centre according to LEED and IGBC Standards and being a house to premier research institutes and educational hub for propagating water positive policies and technologies in the country. Advanced technologies of water and wastewater recycle and reuse will be showcased with traditional water knowledge and practices will also be showcased to create more a water conscious society. The Technology hub will be a centre that will drive forward innovations to cater to problems and create contextualised solutions.

3. Interview and hiring done for the posts of Assistant Manager- PR/Governance, Associate and and

Associate- Pond Rejuvenation.

4. Providing consultancy to the Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associates (CMGGAs) of Nuh and Faridabad districts in Haryana regarding the resolution of water conservation issues in their respective geographical areas.
