Welcome to the 17th Annual Herd Master Bull Sale. On behalf of the Maxwells, Zimmers, Brockhoffs, and Ranciers, we would like to thank you for attending our sale or for taking the time to go through our catalogue. We feel we have assembled a variety of very good bulls so that we can accommodate everyone’s specific needs whether it be traditional, red, or black and whether you need a heifer bull or one to add those extra pounds on your calves.

Between the four farms there are approximately 700 breeding females to ensure we bring you the best bulls that we can assemble on February 29, 2012. We all have similar breeding criteria as far as frame and performance are concerned, as was easily seen down our row at the Camrose Bull Congress and in the pens at the bull sale where we were stalled side by side. We all, however, use different herd sires and A.I. bulls to bring a lot of variety as far as pedigrees go to our sale. We definitely feel that whether you buy the 5th bull or the 105th bull, the quality will be there.

All of our bulls will be semen tested by sale day to help ensure that the bull you buy will be the one working in your cow herd. Occasionally we may sell a bull with a deferred semen test because not all bulls cooperate on their first attempt. He will however only be in the sale if the veterinarian feels he is going to pass on his next attempt. Any bull with a deferred semen test will be announced on sale day. All of the bulls are on a total herd health and vaccination program as well as being treated with Ivomec or similar product. We do everything we can to ensure your satisfaction with your purchase. If for some reason you are not happy, we are not happy and we will fix your problem. All four farms carry a good selection of replacement bulls in case something should happen to yours.

All of the bulls can be viewed on the farm prior to sale day or at the sale barn at the CRE on the Monday or Tuesday before the sale. If you should pick Tuesday to view the bulls, please stay for the barbeque and hospitality in the evening and have a visit with us.

If you cannot attend the sale but would like to purchase a bull, call any one of us and we can go over the sale offering with you. We also have a very competent group of sale managers and sale staff that will confidentially handle your purchase. If you go this route, when you get your bull home, you must be completely satisfied or the bull goes back with us.

Cattle prices have improved since we have seen you last year. If you are one of the ones still in the business the future does look brighter with the entire business strengthening from the price of feeder calves to our cull cows. We also are still in the cattle business with each herd being there for 30 years or more and we plan on being there in the foreseeable future with you. These bulls sell under the standard terms and conditions set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association.

The four breeders reserve the right to collect 100 straws of semen for in herd use only on any bull in our sale. Semen would be collected at the four breeders’ expense and buyer’s convenience.

$100 off per lot if picked up sale day.Bulls will be kept free of charge for a reasonable length of time, usually until you need them. In rare cases and for convenience reasons, you may be asked to receive your bull(s) when delivering other bulls to your area. All bulls must be insured if going back to the seller’s farm unless arrangements have been made between the buyer and seller . Insurance will be available on sale day.

Because of the quality and consistency of bulls offered by these four well established breeders, it is very likely you will be able to buy all of your bulls here. Those of you who purchase three or more bulls at this sale there will be a 5% discount applied against your total purchase price.

The four breeders guarantee to sell you a bull that is structurally sound and has passed a semen test done by a licensed veterinarian. All four herds are on a very ridged health program.

Every year more and more bulls are purchased sight unseen because of the increasing number of repeat buyers. Contact the seller of the bull(s) of your choice, they will discuss the bulls with you and then forward you on to one of our very knowledgeable sales staff members. Soggy made deep bodied bull with a little white on him. His sire and dam are both red goggled eyed cattle. He will raise those early maturing beefy calves the feed lots want to feed.

Dark red star faced fullblood bull from an excellent footed, neat uddered young cow. If you're coming to this sale to buy a fullblood bull you will not be disappointed. There are plenty of high quality bulls to pick from.

Nabob will add some stoutness to your next calf crop. 258Y sire Jake has really done a great job for us on his first set of calves. He stamps his calves with hair, volume, meat and muscle. Nabob is a calf we're really high on, thick deep and attractive.

One of the truly elite herd sires in our offering. Stout made, very correct in his structure and long bodied. Born mid Feb, a bull that is going to make a lot of friends sale day. His brown uddered big volume dam also produced bulls for Bos Taurus Livestock and Wilson Colony. His sire Jake moderates the frame of his offspring yet still produces lots of deep long bodied calves. Just like all the Jake bulls moderate framed, thick butted with lots of top. His dark red mother is a Ranger, Andrew combination, two herdsires that did a lot of good things for us. If you are needing a quality fullblood bull there are going to be plenty to choose from this year.

These Colorado sired bulls are square hipped long bodied bulls with lots of hair and a nice big foot. If you want to add eye appeal and pounds to your calves these Colorado bulls will definitely do that. 232Y dam has raised herdsires for Verdant Valley Colony and Jaime and Jeremy Robinson. A good cow just coming into her prime production.

Another long smooth made Colorado son from a twelve year old Metro cow. She is going to calve again in January of this year. Lots of longevity here.

If you want to moderate the frame of your calves, yet up your maternal traits, while still producing those early maturing fast weight gaining cattle this bull should do all this. Another easy going Colorado son with a lot of natural thickness and style. A well balanced bull with a little extra eye appeal. His dam 13M raised one of our high selling bulls last year going to Dale-Ray Stock Farms. These people top the market every year with their steers and replacement heifers. It's bulls like this that put you to that next level.

This Colorado son is a pen favourite. Could be one of the best fullblood bulls we have raised. Extremely thick quartered, wide topped with a ton of middle and that all important great hair coat. Raptor is a bull that has had a lot of interest in at the bull pen. These Justice sons are all very similar typed, moderate framed, deep, thick bulls with lots of middle and good dispositions. We used the Justice semen on some of our favourite cows. 830U was one of the most talked about U heifers in 2008.

Deep bodied, big ribbed, lots of muscle expression. Sound in his structure with a big foot underneath him. His dam 465P is a cow we try to show visitors at the farm. She is moderate in frame with lots of capacity with a beautiful udder 465P has sons working at Morinville Colony, Grant Jones and Dale Ray Stock Farms. His mom is one of our outstanding young cows, and his grandma 27M stands right at the top of our herd for her consistent production. Looking for a multi red bull with a little more performance and body length this bull has that. 222U bull probably breeds as consistent as any red bull we have used. Both his sons and daughters are smooth stout made hairy beef cattle. Phoenix's dam is a neat uddered, nicely put together McMillan Ranch Cow.

When we were breeding 285Y mother to Edwin our plan was to raise a heifer. 285Y turned out to be plan B which is alright too. A bull with a little more stretch and frame than some of the other bulls yet has that early maturing, strong maternal traits needed in the beef industry. His mother is a big barrelled, high volume cow that is going to make a great bull producer.

This is the second set of calves from the high selling Accelerator son purchased from Labatt Simmentals. Looks like the heifers and bulls are going to be of equal. Plenty of thickness, lots of length, deep bodied, great haired and excellent dispositions. Herd sires like this are hard to find.

Another 222Y son that is just like his brothers. A well balanced calf that always caught your eye when pasture checking. Big ribbed, long spined, soft sided, with tons of natural muscling and capacity to no end. We have quite a few of these dark red hairy blazed faced bulls this year and they are getting a lot of attention. 242Y dam is super uddered feminine, very attractive and she produces. 422P has produced bulls for Keith Wittmack and Brian Vitek.

We are very excited about the red factor bulls we have on offer. 246Y just adds to the excitement. His sire 380W is a red bull from two black parents and he's breeding very well for us. This is his first set of calves so we only have three in the sale but they are all top end bulls.

Hairy Red bull from one of our up and coming herdsires 380W. We just can't wait to get these red factor bulls to Camrose to show you the quality and consistency we have in our red program. 295Y is from a Montana cow they are just flat out darn good producers. Combination of Fullblood and Red genetics to manufacture this big stout horned bull. We really like the Wizard bred cattle but not all are polled. He puts the easy fleshing, deep rib with plenty of capacity in his cattle. His daughters have excellent udders and are turning into very productive young cows.

Because of an early injury we did not use the Baron 11T bull till right at the end of breeding, so needless to say this is the youngest bull in the offering. His dam is a nice uddered Beef Maker cow with an excellent disposition. The 11T sons last year averaged well over $6000. Red Eagle 68Y is a sharp profiled son of the calving ease sire Red Steele. Red Steele was the high seller in our sale two years ago selling to Lee Naslund at Bawlf. I kept a semen interest in the bull because of his mother and the fact that I believed he would work well on heifers. He has not disappointed. Practically every calf is born unassisted, polled, cherry red and moderate framed with plenty of thickness. 68Y comes out of a red goggled fullblood cow that was picked to try Red Steele on to produce this type of calf.

Red Rook 39Y is another good example of why his sire, 62W, is such a valuable herdsire. His calves start out with a very moderate birth weight but go on to grow into desirable bulls and replacement females. 62W was never tested for the homozygous polled trait, but I have not had a horned calf in the two years of using him. Rook comes from one the soggiest, deepest cows in the herd and with his dark color and hair coat, he will be found by many cattlemen on sale day.
