"  A Place for Accidental Encounters and the opportunity to Socialize with Others-

While seeking a place to shelter from the harsh environment often created by the sharp architecture found around Batemale Hall. The design adds a delicate and calming environment for people to share their ideas and thoughts. Whether smoking or getting a breathe of fresh air, you’ll be pulled into this intimate tranquil space. Who knows who you will run into; maybe you will get a chance to ask Jerry an important question, or meet a fellow student enjoying the same struggle you are. This area is designed to create a safe space for the students to bond and clear their heads. With so many students at city college you get a very diverse group of people. The 2nd floor batemal hall courtyard is this departments haven. A space that is rarely inhibited by non-arch students; somewhere outside the studios and classrooms where one can remember that the semester is almost over, and, life will slow down.

"  A Place to Enjoy a Framed View that makes the mundane precious and sacred-

After walking out from a studio class during what is always a small break you crave a clear stream of consciousness. You walk over to the small framed space under the overhang of the courtyard above and tucked between two windows from the classroom behind. While standing in this delicately framed space you can look away from the classroom behind you and out past the courtyard onto the hills that surround City College as you do this a sense of comfort is released. As you look at the all the different shapes, colors, and sizes of the house you think about the people that fill them. Each person has her or his own problems, goals and dreams. As you look out you realize you are not the only one who had a bad morning. It isn’t just you who could be doing better. You are not the only one who could be more grateful. Your thoughts are gathered, the realization that life is about learning has been accepted. With the idea that every mistake is a chance to learn something you should be grateful for, your head is cleared and you are ready to enter back into the studio room and get messy.

"  Intimate with opportunities to note Fleeting Beauty-

Inside the delicate space you may notice the intricate threading holding each arc together. Made of lightweight reusable and recyclable materials these pieces put together make up a very tranquil space. We created a soft safe space with the lightest and simplest of materials. Using items found in almost every arts or crafts store we were able to create a personal area. Using soft natural colors and textures we empower the courtyard with elegance, chipping away at the brutality of the cement.

"  Meditative and Serene-

Looking far away from where your body holds you, enables your mind is able to wander. Taking yourself out of whatever current situation is bothering you gives your nerves a moment to calm. A breathe of fresh air nourishes your brain and awakens your senses. Facing away from the classrooms you are able to put the challenging day aside and take a moment to remember why you are pushing yourself so hard. After clearing you negative thoughts away you are able to continue facing the challenges of class.

Common on class

"   after this semester, the class I most enjoy the ARCH 101. Not because I can feel free to sleep in class, not because it is a easy pass class, it is because I enjoy the way that I have been do or learn in this class. Even thought our instructor Jerry had said a lot of designative word that we don’t know, we still can learn what Jerry trying give our the knowledge that he have. I am so happy to have this class.
