Background
The hospital, as part of its vision to create an ideal patient-centered environment, embarked on becoming a “digital” hospital.
It wanted to replace its mainframe-based computer system with a MEDITECH Client/Server Healthcare Information System.
This was to be done in two phases, and the hospital also wanted business intelligence and reporting technology to improve its decision-making capabilities.

The Challenge
Henry Mayo did not have the patient flow data necessary to identify and manage Emergency Department bottlenecks.
This resulted in:– Long patient wait times in the Emergency Department– Admission and discharge delays– Patients leaving the Emergency Department without being seen
Bottom line: This created health risks for the patient and reduced Emergency Department revenues.

The Solution
Dimensional Insight and the Henry Mayo Decision Support Team created data models allowing hospital management to determine how long patients spend in the Emergency Department (ED) as well as break down that time for each step in the ED flow.
Diver ED reports and dashboards helped to refine workflow processes and better understand compliance.
Dimensional Insight, MEDITECH, and Henry Mayo worked together to refine procedures to identify bottlenecks in the flow of patients through the department.
