Henry Ford Medical GroupOne of the nation’s largest group practices, with more than 1,594 physicians and researchers in more than 40 specialties who staff Henry Ford Hospital, Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and 30 Henry Ford medical centers in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Maplegrove CenterA nationally recognized center for chemical dependency services treating adults, adolescents and their families on the campus of the Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. Maplegrove offers a continuum of clinical care options including residential, outpatient and daily treatment, early intervention services and community education. Maplegrove is part of Henry Ford Behavioral Health, which also includes the Department of Psychiatry and seven outpatient clinics.

Specialty Care Excellence

Neuroscience InstituteOne of the top programs in the country that includes a National Institutes of Health stroke care and research center, a comprehensive epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease treatment and surgery program, one of the largest neurosurgery spine programs in Michigan, and the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center. New imaging technology gives physicians enhanced imaging scans before and during operations to remove tumors.

Orthopedic SurgeryOne of the largest and most advanced orthopedic groups in the country, we specialize in all areas of orthopedics including cancer, joint replacement, spine care, sports medicine and trauma. Our motion analysis lab studies the function of human joints and mechanical factors with degenerative joint and soft-tissue diseases. Our sports medicine team of specialists care for patients and professional, collegiate and high school athletes in the metro Detroit area. Our new William Clay Ford Center for Athletic Medicine is a leading, comprehensive sports medicine, treatment and rehab facility.

Transplant InstitutePerforms organ transplantation of the liver, kidney, pancreas, intestine, lung and heart, as well as bone marrow stem cells. We are the most comprehensive multi-organ transplant program in Michigan, and use effective clinical strategies to increase transplant rates while maintaining superior patient outcomes.

Vattikuti Urology InstituteThe first organized robotic prostatectomy program in the world, the Vattikuti Urology Institute has performed more than 10,000 robotic prostatectomies to date – one of the highest volumes worldwide. It is a leading center in new imaging-guided targeted diagnostics and advance treatments to minimize side the effects of prostatectomy.

Research, Education, and Innovation

Teaching, research and advanced patient care make Henry Ford a premier academic medical center. We provide innovative physician training programs, and initiate and collaborate on leading-edge medical research. Many of our physicians and scientists have academic appointments at Wayne State University School of Medicine and/or other WSU schools/colleges.

Research studiesHenry Ford Medical Group physicians are involved in more than 2,000 ongoing clinical research projects. In addition, 85 full-time research scientists are involved in several hundred individual research projects investigating high blood pressure, heart failure, cancer biology, stroke and brain tumors, bone and joint diseases, immunological basis of diseases, MRI imaging, and public health sciences. Research includes basic science studies with a translational focus (bench to bed-side), clinical research/clinical trials, and population studies that focus on causes of diseases, disease screening, prevention and management, health economics and health outcomes.

Research fundingWe receive more than $94 million in annual funding from external sources, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), other governmental sources, businesses and private foundations. In addition, we provides about $12 million in support of the research enterprise. We rank fourth in Michigan in total NIH funding and rank first in Michigan for NIH-research funding for non-university based health care systems. We are in the top 10% of all institutions granted funding by NIH and U.S. Public Health Service.

Center for Health Services ResearchConducts research focusing on outcomes, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of such diseases as cancer, diabetes, asthma and congestive heart failure as well as common acute conditions.

Education We are a state and national leader in medical education for medical students, interns, residents and fellows and the continuing education of faculty, affiliated physicians, nurses and allied health professionals. Each year, we train more than 1,800 future physicians. About 40% of all physicians in Michigan formally trained here at some point in their career. Henry Ford Hospital trains more than 900 medical students and more than 675 residents and fellows in 50 accredited programs every year. Henry Ford Allegiance, Henry Ford Macomb and Henry Ford Wyandotte hospitals train more than 100 osteopathic medical students and 200 residents in their 22 accredited programs. In 2018, continuing medical opportunities were provided to more than 70,000 physicians, nurses and allied health professionals. Our Center for Simulation, Education and Research provides more than 14,000 participants a risk-free environment where state-of-the-art computers and mannequins simulate hundreds of medical conditions, allowing health professionals to practice and augment their skills.

Henry Ford develops innovative ways to address the social, economic and educational issues that affect the health of the metro Detroit community. These include:

Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) ClinicProvides primary care services to about 1,300 uninsured and underinsured Detroit residents every month. Henry Ford physicians staff the clinic in southwest Detroit.

Generation with PromiseGeneration with Promise promotes health and wellness in Detroit and Wayne and Macomb counties. More than 190,000 youth and adults have participated in the program since inception.

School-Based and Community Health Program Operates 11 child and adolescent health centers that provide primary care services in Detroit and other metro Detroit communities.
