Helpful Hints to Have Fun with Your Sports Team or Club

We would like to help coaches and athletes cooperate together.

Here is some suggestions on how to set good

expectations.

We are Girl Scout Troop 62245 from Killingworth that are 11 and 12 years old.

We all have many years of experience on teams and clubs, such as Lacrosse, Soccer, Basketball, Softball, Cross-country, Swimming, Field Hockey, Horseback Riding, Ice Skating, Theater, and Dancing.

Here are some ways to help make your sports team(s) or clubs better for everyone, including you!

Introduction

You can:

• Tell the coach how you want to improve your skills.

• Send a letter.• Tell what your expectation is then they can tell

you theirs.• Have coach explain what their expectations are

and then reason to make sure everyone can reach the goal.

• Ask the coach what they expect of you.• Tell the coach what your expectation is and ask

what their’s is. Is there a way to compromise?

There is a difference between mine and the coaches’ expectations.

You Can:

• Do a listening exercise.• Don’t talk until kids are paying attention.• Have the kids sit out on a fun drill. • Get your head in the game or don’t play.• Coaches make it interesting for kids.• The person that spoke runs laps.

Kids not listening to coaches.

You Can:

• Have a junior coach help out. • Tell coaches you tried your best.• Try not to get them mad. • Tell them to do yoga.• Try to get them to be calm.• Do some activity that could educate and calm you.• During a game ask coach for water break to cool

down.• Coaches shouldn’t care about winning.• Do something that they ask.

Coaches getting angry or frustrated at you.

I Worry About Letting My Team Down.

You Can:

• Talk to your team if you think you’re going to fail and maybe they can help you work it out.

• Talk to a coach and your teammates to see if they have advice.

• Try your best and if you do, you probably won’t let your teammates down.

• Try to figure out what’s hard for you and ask a coach for help.

• Tell your teammates you tried your best.• Don’t make it seem like a big deal. Everyone

makes mistakes.• Have a friend help you gain confidence in

yourself.• Remember that nobody is perfect.• Remember that mistakes help you learn

something new.

You can:

• Tell jokes to teammates to ease the tension.• Make up useful drills that are also fun or take a

quick break.• Compromise to make the activities better.• The coaches can ask the kids how they could

possibly make the drills more enjoyable.• Try something different.• Maybe do a friendly scrimmage against another

team.• Offer a reward for a job well done.

Sometimes it’s Not Always Fun.

You can:

• Ask your friend to give you an encouraging word.• Get extra help from a different coach and practice

to make the team next year.• Have a parent, friend or sibling teach you to be

better.• Practice.• Work on skills. If you can’t do it, don’t get

frustrated, try again.• Don’t worry, you always have next year. • You tried your best, you can’t change that, at least

you tried.• Find out what’s holding you back and work on it.

I didn’t make the team…Ouch!!

You can:

• Work on your performance. Put more time and effort into it.

• ASK FOR HELP!!!!• Practice, practice, practice.• Try to figure out what is causing your difficulty.• Practice at home.• Try your best and you will succeed.

I can’t perform as well as I want to.
