Although our community continues to return to normal, so many of our most vulnerable neighbors still struggle. The hardships which have always challenged Miami worsened with the pandemic. Much work remains to be done.

*Based on the latest United Way ALICE Report that underscores the importance of United Way’s work in education, financial stability and health. This data, from 2018, does not incorporate the COVID-19 pandemic. Kaiser Family Foundation, Danone North America study, Jewish Community Services 2-1-1.

Shelly-Anne, a Jamaican-born mother of four was forced to drop out of high school when she became pregnant with her first child. Through sheer determination and hard work, she achieved her dream of becoming a licensed nurse in 2019.

As an essential worker, Shelly-Anne has bravely faced challenges that first-time nurses rarely experience in their lifetime, all while raising her four children, two of which have special needs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, United Way provided her family with care packages and support from our Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership site in

Carol City Elementary, where her son Norick attends and currently receives weekly therapy with an Infant Toddler Developmental Specialist.

Thanks to the support she received from United Way programs, Shelly-Ann can now devote herself fully to the care of both her family and her patients.

“United Way will be there for you too, a life saver.”

Your gift is critical. Support the programs that bring lasting change to our community.

Access to quality early education and after-school programs that so many working parents rely on.

Allow veterans to reacclimate to civilian life and attain a productive future.

Health services our elderly rely on, including home care and a hot meal.

Empower our neighbors with financial tools they need to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

We envision a thriving and equitable community where all people have access to good education and the opportunity to lead healthy and financially secure lives. Together we can fight to ensure that everyone in our community has the quality of life they deserve. Join us.
