SPRING 2010 MARY ROSE 500 APPEAL HELP GIVE OUR DOG A HOME! Her name is and she is the only female crew member on the Mary Rose. She may have been the carpenter’s pet as she was found near the doorway of his cabin. Of course she would also have had to earn her keep, probably as the Ship’s rat-catcher. Thanks to our recent visit to DFS Crufts, dog experts have suggested she is the ancestor of the Manchester Terrier – we do know that she is an early breed of terrier. The almost complete skeleton of a small dog aged 18 months – 2 years, was recovered near the doorway of the carpenter’s cabin. This had a sliding door; perhaps she was trapped here as the Mary Rose heeled over and sank in 1545. The Mary Rose 500 Appeal is on a journey to build Hatch’s final home, the ambitious new Mary Rose Museum project. Funding is needed now to help secure both the future of Hatch and the Mary Rose. Please support us by giving £2, £5 or £10 or whatever is possible to help build her home in the new Mary Rose Museum. Remember - your donation is worth much more if you Gift Aid it. For example a £10 donation will be worth £22.80 to our Appeal thanks to both Gift Aid and match funding toward the project from Hampshire County Council. Visit us at: www.maryrose500.org HATCH HATCH
