Roy Malcolm Williams, my great grandfather, was born in 1920 in Cooksville, Illinois. He was the third oldest of nine children. Grandfather’s father, Herbert, worked on a big farm in Illinois they had corn, wheat, and cattle. There was so much corn they had to use a shelling machine, and then they put the corn into big cribs. Grandfather remembers his mother making bread from scratch and how good it smelled. His mother and father use to live in Tennessee but they moved to Illinois to get better jobs, and it worked but after twelve years they were going to move back to Tennessee because their parents were ill. The family sold almost everything because back then there were no moving trucks. So they went by train to get to Tennessee.

Once coming back to Tennessee times were hard. The family lived in a small house at Barton Springs known as the Benjamin Kitchen house. Grandfather went to school at Russellville Elementary school. When he was in third grade a tragedy struck. That winter was horrible, his mother had double pneumonia and gave birth to a little girl. The little girl died and the very next day his mother died too. They buried both of them together. It was so cold that day. After that the children were split up and stayed with different families. Grandfather worked on different farms and had to quit school in sixth grade. On one farm he worked at he met a pretty girl, Mattie Bell Greene. Soon after he had to go to the military.

Grandfather was in the Army and trained near Honolulu, Hawaii. He was then stationed at Pearl Harbor and later moved to Saipan Island. Saipan Island is just three miles from Tinian Island where the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb took off. Great grandfather was a gunman that shot a 44mm gun and protected airfields. Grandfather explained that the reason the airfield had to be guarded was the fear that the Japanese would come back to “finish the job.” The gun that he shot was so big they had to move it with a truck. The tent that he stayed in held about eight people. He was there for around 36 months.

When the war was over he went to California on a really big boat and then on a train to downtown Morristown.

The train came into town at 2 a.m. in a terrible snow storm. The train depot man was very nice, but grandfather wanted to clean up before he saw Mattie Bell Greene - it had been over three years.

But the man said he did not have any hot water for him to shave. So he suggested grandfather to go to a hotel and ask to shave there. So grandfather did, he went to the hotel and asked to shave. The man said yes and cooked him a “kings meal” for serving our country. Grandfather went to

see Mattie Bell and they got married eight days later in a preachers house, Pastor Rhodes.

They bought a little house and three years later had a little girl named Judy Rowena Williams Smith which is my Grammy. Grandfather became a very skilled upholsterer. The family was always involved with church activities and was very resourceful. Grandmother and grandfather were married sixty-five years until grandmother passed away at age eighty-seven in August 2011.

Malcolm Williams - ARMY P.F.C. an Anti-Aircraft Gunner was stationed in Pearl Harbor after the Japanese attack and was also involved in the invasion of the Mariana Island in the taking over of Guam.

Matthew Kinsler is nine years old. He lives in Morristown, TN and is thankful to be able to visit with grandfather and hear his stories. He got all the information in this article from his grandfather.

At the age of ninety-two grandfather now lives at Regency Retirement Center, and is known for his kind and gentle heart.

It was April 2007 when Carolyn Jarnagin met a little boy who would forever change her life. “Well, are you excited school is almost out?”, she asked. “No, ma’am,” he replied, “I get to eat at school.” At that moment, Food on Foot was born.

TN Food on Foot was founded as a Christian-based nonprofit organization that began providing nutritious food bags to the hungry and homeless in the Lakeway area once a week to help underprivileged children. Although it originally began as a children’s ministry to provide food for the needy in the Morristown area, God has grown it into an organization that now provides over 1200 food bags per month for both children and adults in the Lakeway area and surrounding counties. In addition, over 300 food bags are distributed to local el-ementary and middle schools who have needy children. Over 185 toiletry bags are given out each month as well as school supplies and backpacks. In 2013, over 1300 backpacks loaded with supplies were handed out to local children in need. Food on Foot also distributes special religious holiday items. This past Easter, they distributed 626 Easter baskets filled with goodies that were assem-

bled with the help of First United Methodist church and each one included a bible that was donated by Lifeway Christian Store. At Christmas, they handed out 650 new toys and 636 pairs of new pajamas to children that otherwise might have had nothing.

The ministry is cur-rently developing other community outreach programs to help reduce the number of homeless and enhance the lives of underprivileged chil-dren. There are also new partnerships that have been made in order to provide food for more children. For example, Food on Foot recently began providing weekly food bags for 110 addi-tional children who are involved with the Chil-dren of Hope program. Children of Hope is a nonprofit organization that began in order to teach God’s word to “at-risk” chil-dren in the com-munity. The group

meets at Buffalo Trail Baptist Church each Fri-day. In addition to the Children of Hope min-istry, many other nonprofit organizations have benefited from Food on Foot including CEASE, Youth Villages, Youth Emergency Shelter, and M.A.T.S. Food on Foot has also partnered with a local principal to begin a summer tutoring/agri-cultural program. This program will be available for pre-selected “at-risk” students who will be transitioning from middle to high school. It is a summer school-type of program where students will be tutored in preparation of high school while learning gardening skills by growing their own garden full of vegetables which will be di-vided between the students to take home. Food on Foot will be providing these students with daily lunches. They will also be continuing their summer feeding program. During the summer months, they will be distributing food bags every

Wednesday as well as every Saturday to the hungry and homeless out of their new build-ing which is located at #1 Berkline Drive, (off Morris Blvd, between signs now and Dr. Johnson DMD oral/maxillofacial surgery). Food on Foot also has a scripture memoriza-tion program for children.

The ministry has recognized the need for clothing for children in the community as well and will be accepting new and/or pre-viously worn clothing and shoes in good condition throughout the summer that will be given away to needy children before the start of the new school year.

It is evident that the number of those in need is growing exponentially. Food on Foot is a shining beacon of hope and a blessing in this community. To think that one child would go to bed hungry in this community is heartbreaking....

....but to know how many actually do is virtually incom-prehensible. This is not a problem that only exists in bigger cities. This is a problem that is very real and exists right outside our front doors. We must come together as a com-munity to ensure that every child’s needs are met. By doing God’s work with our hands, we can make a profound dif-ference in the lives of these children.

Food on Foot 501C3 receives no government support of any kind. Instead, funding comes from tax-deductible do-nations from the general public, local churches, organiza-tions, and businesses in the area. Food on Foot does not pay any administrative salaries. Everyone who is associated with Food on Foot volunteers his or her time. 100% of all dona-tions are used to meet the needs of the underprivileged in our community. This organization feels extremely blessed and they are incredibly thankful for the many supporters that make everything they do possible. The ministry’s hope for the future is that no child will go hungry. Any donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Christmas in July? Well, no, not quite. But you will get to experience December’s End this August if you attend the East Tennessee Fair at Cherokee Park when they will perform as the first opening band for Skid Row on August 16th. The rock orchestra, December’s End, is the latest creation of one local young musician, Sam Morgan, with a lot of help from six of his friends: Shaan Ramaprasad, Devon Parvin, Lee Jones, Daria Greenlee, Bergen Lancaster, and Matthew McNabb. Shaan Ramaprasad, a junior at Morristown West High, plays 2nd violin in the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra, and violin in December’s End. He spends most of his time inventing when he isn’t playing violin. Drummer Devon Parvin teaches drums at Lloyd’s Music Mart, and also plays in the praise band ‘Modern Day Psalms’. Lee Jones has an interest in automotives, and aside from playing bass in the band, enjoys working on cars. Both Devon and Lee are seniors at Morristown East High. Daria Greenlee is a freshman at Walter State, and outside of playing in December’s End, plays in weddings, banquets, and theatrical productions. Violinist Bergen Lancaster is a freshman at Carson Newman, teaches violin at the Fret Store, and also has a love for horses. She is ranked number one in the country in the American Quarter Horse Youth Association in jumping. Matthew McNabb, the other guitarist in the band besides Sam, spends a lot of his free time working out, and just finished up his sophomore year at Walter State. December’s End will include at least 3 violins and piano in its songs, and will perform original music composed by its young director, Sam, along with another song or two you may recognize. Don’t let the violins fool you, this band rocks hard.A senior at Morristown East High, Sam is the son of Dan Morgan and Janice Snider Morgan. He is a straight A student who will graduate with academic honors and distinction in

2014. After that, Sam hopes to master the business end of music in college. In the meantime, this kid just loves to make music. Hello Morristown has followed Sam’s endeavors for several years, and we are anxious to see where he goes from here. Sam and two friends started a garage band named Minoan Shadow in middle school and went on to win the school talent show. When the members of Minoan Shadow parted ways, Sam’s musical interests took a new turn to the genre of symphonic rock. Symphonic rock is the combination of rock and orchestral music, performed by a core rock band together with classical instrumentation such as violins, brass instruments, and piano. You may be familiar with Trans Siberian Orchestra as the group who made this type of music popular in America. Sam’s next project was to join with his music instructor, Mitch Smith, to form the Mitch Smith Orchestra. (Hello Morristown Dog Days of Summer 2011 issue) MSO performed two charity events in August, 2011, that raised over $4,700.00 for the local MATS homeless shelter. Most of members of December’s End were carried over from MSO, including Lee Jones, Shaan Ramaprasad, Devon Parvin, Bergen Lancaster, and Daria Greenlee.Since then, Sam has divided his time between the East High Advance Chorus and First Presbyterian Church’s Jazz Ensemble. He has also played lead guitar for Encore Theatrical’s orchestra in the performances of Camp Rock and Next To Normal.

This summer, Sam’s main focus will be December’s End. The band invites all of you to join them at the East Tennessee Fair for a rockin’ good time.

with Tarragon Russian Dressing

Brushing burgers with butter while they’re on the grill. The natural sugars caramelize, making the meat extra-delicious.

1/2 cup mayonnaise1/3 cup ketchup1 tablespoon red wine vinegar1 tablespoon grated onion1 tablespoon chopped parsley1 tablespoon chopped tarragon1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce12 ounces thickly sliced bacon1 1/3 pounds ground beef chuck1 1/3 pounds ground beef sirloin1 teaspoon kosher salt1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper2 tbs unsalted butter, melted3 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut into 6 slices6 hamburger buns, split and toasted6 iceberg lettuce leaves6 slices of tomato6 slices of red onion

1. In a medium bowl, whisk the mayonnaise with the ketchup, red wine vinegar, onion, parsley, tarragon and Worcestershire sauce. Cover and refrigerate.

2. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over moderately high heat, turning once, until crisp, about 6 minutes. Drain and cut the bacon into large pieces.

3. Light a grill and fill a large bowl with ice water. Gently mix the ground chuck with the ground sirloin, salt and pepper. Form the meat into six 4-inch patties, about 1 1/4 inches thick. Submerge the patties in the cold water and let soak for 30 seconds. Immediately transfer the burgers to the grill and brush with some of the melted butter. Grill over high heat for 9 minutes for medium-rare meat, turning once or twice and brushing occasionally with butter. Top the burgers with the cheese during the last minute of grilling and let melt.

4. Spread the Russian dressing on the buns. Set the lettuce leaves and tomato slices on the bottom halves and top with the burgers, red onion and bacon. Close the burgers, cut in half and serve right away.

Integrative … is the one word that most closely describes our practice. The way people think and what they believe determine how they live. Myself, Dr. Jana Bunsic and my right hand, Physician’s Assistant Ashley Greene, PA believe that the body is not merely a group of organs, but a divinely-created, wondrously complex interactive systemic structure. Our bodies have an in-born ability to heal themselves. I see our jobs as medical practitioners to be facilitators of this process. Although there have been great life-saving advances in medicine over the last fifty years, we as a society have lost the understanding of our bodies and how to heal. Unfortunately, much of the medical establishment has done the same. Many are completely focused on prescription drugs and invasive surgeries and procedures rather on looking for simple natural solutions to complex issues.

At our practice we have worked diligently to expand our horizons, going to special training around the country, to recapture and expand upon our knowledge and understanding of how the human body works. This ever-expanding

skill base we utilize in treating each individual case and to promote true healing, not just covering up symptoms. We offer a wide range of treatments unique and to the East Tennessee area. Some of these include: Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine including Cranial Osteopathy, Customized Medical Weight loss, Bioidentical Hormone Replacement for men and women, Specialized gluten and Food Allergy testing, Comprehensive Nutritional Testing, Regenerative Prolotherapy injections for damaged ligaments and tendons, Neural/Neuroprolotherapy Injections

for irritated nerves and muscles and Triggerpoint injections.

We are family oriented in our personal and professional lives and love to see patients of all ages that could benefit from our holistic care. Our office is fully equipped with staff and facilities designed to see newborn to elderly patients.

We believe in using the best of all knowledge in medicine. We recognize and utilize the best medical technology available and medications whenever appropriate, but always keep in mind what is the very best for the patient. If you think our practice could help you to achieve the personal health goals for you or your family, please call us at …423-581-2538. Most health insurance plans accepted.

We do not prescribe narcotic pain medications, controlled antianxiety drugs or phentermine for weight loss.
