Transcript of Helios Educaion Foundation
About the FoundAtionHelios Education Foundation is focused on creating a high-expectations, college-going culture in Arizona and Florida by investing in initiatives across the education continuum that create opportunities for postsecondary education success.
As an engaged Foundation, embedded in communities across both states, Helios is contributing its leadership, expertise and financial resources to advance the academic preparedness of students with an emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education.
Through its investments, the Foundation is working to better prepare students to compete and succeed in a globally competitive economy.
Created in 2004 through the sale and conversion of Southwest Student Services Corporation and with an initial endowment of $525 million, Helios made its first investments in education in 2006. Since that time, the Foundation has invested over $125 million in programs and initiatives that are changing lives through education.
our impAct AreAsOur investments are focused across three key impact areas: Early Childhood Education, the Transition Years and Postsecondary Education Success. In Early Childhood Education, the Foundation’s work reflects the need to surround early learners with high-quality teachers and practitioners, but our partnerships also focus on integrating emergent literacy and language acquisition training into postsecondary education programs.
Supporting initiatives that create a college-going culture around students and improve their academic performance in STEM best defines Helios’ investment philosophy in the Transition Years. Our work in this area is improving curriculum rigor and relevance, creating effective opportunities for family and community engagement and is strengthening the skills and knowledge of middle and high school STEM teachers.
Increasing access to postsecondary education for students from traditionally underserved and underrepresented populations and cultivating a pipeline of students focused on STEM are at the core of the Foundation’s postsecondary education success initiatives. Through these dollars and other supportive services that improve student achievement, Helios is helping remove barriers and is widening the pathway toward postsecondary education attainment for thousands of students.

We believe that partnership is the best way to achieve our mission of creating opportunities for individuals in Arizona and Florida to succeed in postsecondary education. Organizations from both the public and private sectors that are performing powerful and results-oriented work in our impact areas may be invited by Foundation staff to submit a proposal.
Helios only accepts solicited requests for funding. Our staff of experts is actively engaged in the education arena within both Arizona and Florida, seeking out best practices, innovative approaches and other opportunities to strengthen and transform education, and ultimately increase student success.
