School Council Elections 2020 – a call for nominations

An election is to be conducted for members of the School Council for Ringwood Heights Primary School.

All government schools in Victoria have a School Council. They are legally formed bodies that are given powers to set the key directions of the school within centrally provided guidelines.

There are 3 possible categories of membership:

⁎ A mandated elected parent category

⁎ A mandated elected Department employee category. The Principal is automatically one of these members

⁎ An optional Community member category. Its members are co-opted by a decision of the council because of their special skills, interests or experiences

The Notice of Election and call for nominations for School Council is included with this newsletter. Interested members of Ringwood Heights Primary School community are asked to consider nominating for vacancies on School Council for the next two year period. All you need is the desire to work in partnership with others to help shape the school’s future.

Vacancies:

⁎ 4 parent members of council

⁎ 2 Department of Education

Nomination forms for the vacancies on School Council are available from the Office. If you are interested and cannot come to the school to collect forms, we would be pleased to receive a telephone call from you requesting a form and we can send it home with your eldest child.

Please note that nominations must be in by 4.00pm on Friday 21 February.

In the event that there are more nominations received than there are vacancies, a ballot will be conducted with the ballot closing at 4.00pm on Friday 6 March.

Nomination forms may be obtained from the school and must be lodged by

4 pm on Friday 21 February 2020

The ballot (if required) will close at 4 pm on Friday 6 th March 2020

House Captains

On Monday this week we presented leadership badges to our School Captains, House Captains, and Sound Technicians. Student Leadership positions provide students with the opportunities to lead by example, to demonstrate our school values and be positive role models for all students. It is an honour to be recognised in this way and we are extremely confident that all of our student leaders are up for the challenges that await them and look forward to a great year of learning and personal growth. We wish them all well!

Reminders:

Could I ask parents who are walking into the school from the Aurum Crescent entry to use the pathway in preference to the driveway please. We often have delivery trucks and staff (including OSH) who use this car park and using the driveway places pedestrians at a very high risk.

We are also extremely proud of our gardens and ask that you respect these as a ‘Keep off’ area of the school. It is disappointing to see people using these

as a thoroughfare. At school, all gardens are ‘out of bounds’ and this is strongly reinforced with the students. We would be grateful for your support.

Sporting News

Recently, Emily R competed at the State multi event athletics competition. The top 100 athletes across Victoria came together to compete in 5 events each. Emily R competed in shotput, hurdles, 800m, long jump and 100m sprint. She came 1st in her hurdles event and 3rd overall, receiving a bronze medal from Athletics Victoria.

A big congratulations should go to Emily and we are all proud of your efforts! What a star we have at RHPS.

LT4 Flourishing Inquiry

What a busy start we’ve had in LT4! Students have been inquiring into What makes a flourishing community? We are thinking about our learning community at Ringwood Heights and what norms, routines and expectations we need to flourish as learners.

Flourishing is when people are at their optimum and doing their best. People can not only flourish individually, but also as communities and businesses. Employees are working hard and happy and the communities are working together. Flourishing as a learner is when you’re excited about what you’re learning about and trying to do your best. Baye – 4B

I think flourishing means growing and challenging yourself. It also means you’re feeling happy and

inspired to learn and do more. – Emily 4B

We have also begun looking at the Australian Gold Rush as a case study and have begun wondering which people were flourishing, and at the expense of what! Students experienced life on the gold fields first hand on Monday, where they got to pan for gold. Not all of the diggers were lucky enough to find a piece. Here is what the learning experience got us thinking about:

I thought it was a great way to learn about the gold rush because sometimes we read or watch things about it but this helped us know what people on the

gold fields would have felt like and realised that it was not really fair or equal. We realised women could not mine for gold or that it would be taken away if you didn’t have a licence. It was like doing it in real life. – Eden 4M

I learnt that when mining for gold it is very hard and not very fair because girls couldn’t keep any gold they found! Most people get their gold taken off of them because they are working for richer people or companies. It really surprised me! – Isla 4RD

We are also very excited for our first round of interschool sport tomorrow!

LT3 Update

Learning Team 3 has been getting to know each other. One way we have done this is by writing letters to our passion. During Art, we created art works that reflect our passions and then displayed them outside our classrooms. Feel free to come and enjoy our wall of passion art!

Dear Karate, I love you. Always have, and I always will. From the time I arrived and got my first belt, I couldn’t describe how new it felt. I could see my fortune as a black belt as I stand at the wall in disbelief I suddenly felt a sigh of relief. I untied my belt and gathered my stuff I felt like I could run to the car and dance in the rain! My first lesson was a dream, I felt like a hero My next not so much, as I lay down in my bed The only thing to do was to clutch Clutch my body, clutch my heart. I knew my troubles could not pull me apart. Apart from the thing I love.

Our first Munchie Crunchie for the year will be held on Thursday March 12th in the Multi Purpose Room.

The classes providing the delicious snacks treats for our first Munchie Crunchie are 4B, 4M and 4RD.

OSHClub News Before School / After School Care Program

OSHClub News

Pupil free day

On Tuesday the 25th of February there is a pupil free day. If you are seeking to access

OSHClub for the day, please book in via the kidsoft app to secure your place. Bookings close on Monday the 17th. The day will go

ahead if there are enough bookings.

Please don’t forget to pack your hats!

Please remind your child to bring their hats from the classroom to bring to OSHC.

Sunsmart policy requires we were hats outside and

if there are no hats, there is no play outside. v

Please make sure you book your children in to the program online or leave a message on the program phone before 9am for last minute bookings so that we can staff accordingly. This is very important in

order to ensure we are providing adequate supervision and the children are safe and supported. Also, please let us know if your child is booked in but will not be attending as we need to ensure your

child is safe and accounted for.
