ationally, total venture capital investment in the first half of 2015 was $39.5 billion, surpassing the previous peak

f $35.7 billion. While the actual number of transactions declined in the second quarter of 2015 compared to theame timeframe in 2014, the lower number is reflected in the many super-size investments in fast-growingunicorn” companies like Airbnb, who raised $1.5 billion during the second quarter. Despite this steady stream ofC funding, the total amount still falls short of the $85 billion of funding raised in 2000. This may be a sign thatany investors remain wary of the rapid growth and potentially over-generous valuations of certain companies that

    re still relatively nascent.

While Silicon Valley remained the leader in venture capital funding (investment having already surpassed $15 billionn 2015 year-to-date), funding in the New York metro area has increased dramatically. In New York City, dubbedSilicon  Alley,” venture capital funding surged to over $2.3 billion in the second quarter of 2015, representing theighest level of investment in a single quarter since 2000. Total funding year-to-date in New York hit $3.7 billion at

he end of the second quarter, and it is on track to surpass last year’s post-2000 record of $5.2 billion.

enture capital funding was scattered throughout NYC, but companies located in Midtown South received the mostunding, including both Warby Parker and WeWork. WeWork raised more than $434 million in capital, representinghe largest transaction of the year, and Warby Parker attracted $100 million.
